Fairfield, CT (PRWEB) June 7, 2007

The Connecticut Press Club has announced that ''Welcome To Pottersville'' by Neil Spagna has won its 2007 Book of the Year Award. The book, which is Mr. Spagna's debut, marks the first time the award has been given to a self-published work. The book was published in conjunction with Lulu.com, the world's fastest-growing provider of print-on-demand books.

Mr. Spagna wrote ''Welcome To Pottersville'' for baseball fans of all kinds and contrasts the vast differences between New York's two famous baseball teams -- the Mets and the Yankees -- and their fans. He uses the classic film It's A Wonderful Life as a metaphor throughout the book and the result is a unique book that is as much a cultural study of modern New York and America as it is about baseball.

"I am truly touched by this award," said Mr. Spagna. "The greatest gift a writer, especially a first-timer like me, can receive is the positive feedback from those who cared enough to spend time out of their busy lives to read your words. The fact that such a distinguished group as the Connecticut Press Club should take that a step further and bestow this award to me is a great honor."

''Welcome To Pottersville'' is available for purchase at Lulu, com and at all major Internet booksellers including Amazon.com and Barnesandnoble.com. The author's royalties go toward funding of children-based charities.

About the Author: Neil Spagna is the author of various emails, book reports, term papers, business letters and post cards. Welcome To Pottersville is his first book. He lives in Connecticut with his son Jack, daughter Sophia, and wife and best friend Hadley.
