BirthControlPatchSideEffects.com Launched by Hissey Kientz, LLP

BirthControlPatchSideEffects.com contains medical and legal information about the Ortho Evra birth control patch and the latest news concerning Ortho Evra lawsuits.

Austin, TX (PRWEB) June 7, 2007 -- The law firm of Hissey Kientz, LLP has announced the launch of its new website BirthControlPatchSideEffects.com. This new site will provide patients with information about the potential health risks of the Ortho Evra patch, as well as medical and legal information concerning this alternative to traditional birth control pills.

The Ortho Evra birth control patch is applied to the skin and delivers up to 60% more estrogen than conventional oral contraceptives. In November 2005, the Food and Drug Administration acknowledged that consumers of the Ortho Evra patch were exposed to an increased level of estrogen and confirmed that higher levels of estrogen can cause blood clots (http://www.fda.gov/bbs/topics/news/2005/NEW01262.html). The FDA did not directly link Ortho Evra with these adverse effects, however.

The Associated Press also reported in 2005 that users of the Ortho Evra birth control patch suffer blood clots and fatalities at a rate three times higher than those using oral contraceptives (http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/11/11/earlyshow/health/health_news/main1037611.shtml).

More than 4 million women have used the patch since 2002, and Ortho-McNeil has yet to issue a recall.
