New York, NY (PRWEB) June 10, 2007 -- Howard Nestler, CEO of Executive Options, has warned a gathering of executives against taking a passive approach to finding their next job. "These days, no one can expect to get the job they want by defaulting to a generic approach," was Nestler's message.
"Executives who want positions that are not generic in nature need to understand how best to communicate their value proposition," Nestler says. "They need to promote themselves in a manner that will create excitement and an imperative amongst the companies they target."
Nestler makes the point that the world has become more and more media savvy over the years. "Techniques that used to work now work against one by making him or her look out-moded and even obsolete." Not the effect a job candidate wants to create when looking for an upgraded position.
"A job candidate at the management level should think of himself or herself as someone running for public office," Nestler advises. "They should ask themselves how best to create a quick and indelible impression that will cancel out the competition. A resume won't accomplish this."
Nestler says that the day when a man or woman can mail out a resume and expect to find a job that will stimulate them is gone. "The passive approach will lead to retirement or, at best, a very long wait for a job offer that is likely to be less than desired."
Nestler advises a pro-active approach.
