LAEDC Names Transportation, Logistics Consultant and Entrepreneur Al Shepetuk As The New President For CA Transp. and Logistics Institute (CALTI)
Shepetuk brings 30 years of experience as president of CALTI, which promotes careers in the transportation and logistics industry by implementing a demand-driven education curriculum to better prepare and train students for transportation and logistics careers.
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) June 9, 2007 -- The Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation (LAEDC) today announced Al Shepetuk as the first staff member and President of the California Transportation and Logistics Institute (CTLI). CTLI was conceived by LAEDC Chairman Ray Holdsworth to promote careers in the transportation and logistics industry by implementing a demand-driven education curriculum to better prepare and train students for transportation and logistics careers when they enter the workforce. Its founding partners include the LAEDC, the Southern California Leadership Council, the California Community Colleges and the California State University System.

More than 400,000 jobs in transportation and logistics currently exist in California today. This sector is expected to grow in this region by 348,479 jobs by 2030, about 12 percent of the total new jobs in the area. In Los Angeles County, most entry level jobs in this sector provide workers with a livable wage and an opportunity for advancement. Logistics has become a strategically important industry in Southern California; however, there is a short supply of skilled workers emerging to fill the increasing number of high paying jobs in this sector of our economy.
Shepetuk's experience includes working with many of the CTLI's stakeholders to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of manufacturing and distribution companies' logistic systems as well as the operations of K -12 and higher education institutions, non-profits and state & local government transportation agencies. He has managed dozens of logistics projects to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of supply chain operations. His experience includes working with one of Southern California's major corporations to develop their logistics strategy, evaluate their inventory management processes and select and implement a state-of-the art supply chain software package that improved their logistics operations.
Shepetuk's transportation experience includes leading a critically important six month review of the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LAMTA) subway projects in the mid 90's when the project was under intense federal government scrutiny. The final report was quickly embraced by the LAMTA's Board, CEO and Construction Division and provided a roadmap that helped restore the LAMTA's credibility.
In addition, Shepetuk led teams that helped the Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) develop a planning process and an integrated strategic plan across LAWA's four airports. He also led a project for the State of Hawaii Department of Transportation to develop comprehensive strategic plans to integrate their Airports, Harbor and Highways Departments. Most recently, he was responsible for managing the logistics of a consumer products company that manufactured in China and shipped products to the U.S. via steamship carriers.
Shepetuk's nonprofit experience includes working with the regional unit of a national charity to develop their first mission statement and strategic plan. Shepetuk earned an M.B.A. from Stanford University and a Master of Science Degree in engineering from New York University.
