Baby Boomers Are Hot
Can older people remain vibrant? The nomination of a novel featuring a spunky grandma and her sometimes-ex lover for Best Mystery Novel of the year provides the answer.
Thibodaux, LA (PRWEB) June 11, 2007 -- Baby Boomers Are Hot!
Can older people remain vibrant? The nomination of a novel featuring a spunky grandma and her sometimes-ex lover for Best Mystery Novel of the year provides the answer.
The author herself is a boomer. Deadly Ink notified June Shaw, a grandmother, that her debut book Relative Danger is one of just twelve nominated for the David G. Sasher, Sr. Award for Best Mystery Novel of 2006.
When asked if she is really the novel's protagonist Cealie Gunther, Shaw said, "No, she's who I want to be. Cealie is nowhere near my mother's age but has her spunk. Mom reached her nineties and was telling people the one pill she needed to take daily was for birth control. At her great-niece's reception, she waited to catch the bridal bouquet and then yanked it out of the hands of the young woman in front of her who'd caught it."
Many readers relate with the story and its protagonist, including the book's editor, Alice Duncan, who said of Relative Danger, "Way fun! I want to be Cealie!"
Shaw's novel was published in hardcover by Five Star, imprint of Thomson Gale, in December, 2006. Harlequin Worldwide will reprint it for its mystery book club members at the end of 2007. Publishers Weekly says of this first book in a planned series "Shaw's promising first mystery…(has) humorous dialogue, a suspenseful climax and good character development."
Relative Danger, mystery with a Cajun flair, blends the human element with a suspenseful story, while not forgetting life's sensual side. Armchair Interviews declares "Shaw does a good job of showing that grandmas can be sexy too. Sexy grandmas, mmm!" Popular reviewer Harriet Klausner describes the relationship between Cealie and her restaurateur sometimes-ex lover Gil Thurman as "hotter than his hottest red sauce." The book contains mouthwatering authentic Cajun recipes.
So what's on the horizon for the budding novelist? Shaw is well underway with her second book in the series. Killer Cousins will thrust Cealie Gunther into another exciting adventure concerning a death she must solve, while developing the heated relationship between the boomer protagonists.
Shaw also continues to dance with her mom, who can be seen on Shaw's website doing the Macarena for her one hundredth birthday party.
With so much proof, who can ever doubt that people of a certain age can remain vibrant and hot?
