On Eve of National Small Vessel Security Summit, TPLI Releases List of US Terrorist Targets

In early 2007 Tuna Point Lighthouse Inc. (TPLI) announced the development of a plan to utilize the existing US Coast Guard system of lighthouses to act as a coastline protection system for the Department of Homeland Security. TPLI has continued to aggressively develop this plan including the extrapolation to specific targets with satellite photos around the US.

Mays Landing, NJ and Maunabo, PR (PRWEB) June 12, 2007 -- The plan developed by Tuna Point Lighthouse Inc. (TPLI) to utilize the existing US Coast Guard system of lighthouses to act as a coastline protection system for the Department of Homeland Security has continued to be aggressively developed. As we approach the National Small Vessel Security Summit, TPLI wants to contribute to the summit by publishing a list of top terrorist targets from around the US. This list includes updated shots of the JFK airport area including the Buckeye Pipeline extension into Jamaica Bay.

This summit will bring together a select group of small vessel maritime stakeholders and top Federal, State and local government officials to discuss concerns and issues posed by small vessels being used by terrorist in the maritime domain of the United States. "However, this is not the only purpose of the summit", said George Van Parys, President of TPLI. "Project Hawkeye & the Maritime Domain Awareness effort will also be major discussion points." Van Parys continued with, "one of the main branch issues for the summit revolves around major flaws with both Project Hawkeye & the Maritime Domain Awareness effort." "Discussions on why changes to vessel registration and documentation will be needed, down to even very small vessels, revolve around these flaws." Additionally, Van Parys stated, "There have already been some attempts to float some legislation to propose the installation of aircraft type transponders in small vessels, to compensate for Project Hawkeye's inability to tell the difference between a wave and a wave runner." "The bottom line to all these issues, is that the current system is ill-conceived and needs to be re-thought in terms of its hardware and software. The summit should concentrate on these issues, while remembering there is a target list out there, far larger than we are listing, and the clock is ticking."

"Writers like Eric Lipton of The New York Times have written detailed articles on these issues as far back as December of 2006" states Van Parys. "Mr. Lipton was one of the first writers to point out the problems with these programs." "We are briefing summit attendees such as Mike Sciulla of Boat US and Lucy Reed of The Triton with both data and website information so they will be fully briefed for the summit." Van Parys continued with "By publishing the updated list of photographs prior to the summit we are hoping to raise awareness of the attendees on the relevance of the issues to real world scenarios."

The TPLI system would monitor waterway traffic alerting Waterway Watch staffers to the traffic moving towards target facilities. This would allow the facility to be alerted, and to take precautionary action if it is deemed necessary. Additionally the system is day, night, and all weather capable. Van Parys went on saying, "I'm telling you that I am sure we can do something about this problem. I think that we, the American people, can still fight the forces of terrorism used against honest Americans. It is not easy. However, it has to be done because safety does not come into being automatically. Individual people, like the members of our staff here, have to work and fight to make this project happen--and individuals across the US have to make this plan come into being because otherwise is won't happen, and if it does not happen, God help us all."
