RV Parks Overcome Roadblocks to Internet Access with PLC Networks

PLC networks, a secure alternative to Wi-Fi and hard-wired networks, allow RV parks to offer Internet access to their guests.

Mounds, OK (PRWEB) June 14, 2007 -- PLC networks offer a secure alternative to Wi-Fi and hard-wired networks as RV parks attempt to meet the demands of Internet-savvy travelers.

Travelers have come to rely on constant Internet access, even while on vacation. Until recently, RV parks and campgrounds had struggled to provide Internet service to park guests with limited options.

Hard-wired networks are impractical in outdoor settings with hundreds of users coming and going in recreational vehicles. Likewise, wireless network solutions present a bevy of problems, such as poor security, signal disruption and decreased performance with multiple users.

RV parks are turning instead to PLC networks as an alternative to traditional Internet access points. PLC technology uses a location's existing electrical system to create a broadband networking platform. Once an RV park guest plugs their recreational vehicle into the electric pedestal, every electrical outlet in the vehicle becomes an Internet access point.

"We've used PLC networks in a number of challenging commercial situations," said Mark Wakefield, president of Remote Watch, a network solutions provider. "The technology offers outstanding network capabilities at about half the cost of traditional and Wi-Fi networks."

Flexibility and security are typical challenges faced by RV parks. PLC networks can be installed permanently or on an as-needed basis. They can be configured to require password login for pay-per-use Internet access, and can also be used to network security cameras and phone systems.

Wakefield expects demand for Internet access to grow as the leisure set becomes more dependent upon Internet access in their travels. PLC technology promises to provide sharp competition for Wi-Fi in challenging locations like RV park environments.
