Lightning Labels Introduces Environmentally Friendly Label Material

Until recently if you wanted a durable label material that was waterproof and oilproof you have to use a film material that was made from petroleum products. Today, Lightning Labels is making available the EarthFirst PLA label material, a material produced in the United States from corn, an annually renewable resource.

Denver, CO (PRWEB) June 20, 2007 -- Lightning Labels (www.lightninglabels.com) is delighted to announce the introduction of a new environmentally friendly label material for the digital label printing industry. Most film material (durable material that is both waterproof and oilproof), such as the popular white BOPP material, is made from petroleum. Now, there is an alternative -- it is a material called EarthFirst PLA and it is made from corn, a renewable resource.

"Until recently there have been virtually no environmentally friendly options for people who purchase labels," said Steve Smith, president of Lightning Labels. "We are committed to earth-friendly business practices, and so we are delighted to be one of the first digital label printers in the country to stock the EarthFirst PLA corn-based material."

Lightning Labels introduced this new material after an extensive testing period. Several customers were involved in a field test, and the material also went through rigorous internal testing. "While we wanted to introduce this corn-based material, before we did that we had to make absolutely certain that the material met our high quality standards," said Smith. "We are pleased to report that the corn-based material performed brilliantly -- the vibrant color with our high resolution digital label printing looked great and it is just as durable as our conventional label film material."

For label buyers who want to not only convey an environmentally friendly image, but also do something about it, then the EarthFirst PLA material is a good solution. Not only is it made from corn instead of imported petroleum, it takes less energy to produce. When someone purchases custom labels they are after a material that looks good and performs well with a strong adhesive. Now they can get a great performing material that is also good for the environment.

Lightning Labels produces custom labels and stickers for a broad range of industries. Wine labels, candle labels, lip balm labels, and various other product labels are printed every day at Lightning Labels. With sales increasing at more than 50% a year for the last five years and 2007 sales projected to exceed $3.5 million, Lightning Labels has one of the largest digital label printing operations in the country.
