The icon 2003 Howard Park Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot has taken out the prestigious Best Red Wine Trophy, making it the most awarded red wine from among 5735 wines entered this year. Alongside the Trophy, the wine was also awarded a Great Gold Medal.

The Howard Park Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot was released in 1986 and is the flagship varietal of the Howard Park range. It was recently described by wine writer Campbell Mattinson as:

"Silken textured and seductive, this beautifully mulberried, leathered, curranty wine is a picture of elegance and control."

Jeff and Amy Burch, the owners of Howard Park Wines had this to say about the award achievements:

"We are very proud of the recognition our wines have achieved in such a competitive international environment. The Best Red Wine Trophy is only testament to our philosophy of crafting balanced and elegant wines with uncompromising commitment and furthers our belief in Western Australia's ability to perform on the world wine stage."

The Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2007 was held from 29th April to 1st May and received wines from over 47 producing countries. All wines were blind tasted by a panel of 220 wine experts including oenologists, sommeliers and journalists.

A Gold Medal was also awarded to the 2004 Howard Park Leston Shiraz, a single vineyard wine from the Howard Park's Leston vineyard in the Margaret River region of Western Australia.

Howard Park was one of only two Western Australian wineries to be awarded a Gold Medal or higher at this year's competition.

The 2002 vintage of the Howard Park Cabernet Sauvignon was awarded a Gold Medal at the same competition last year.
