Crumley & Associates Announces Winners of Second Annual Crib to College Scholarship Competition

Crumley & Associates is proud to announce the 10 winners of the second annual statewide Crib to College Scholarship and Next Step Scholarship competitions. All winners were awarded a $1,000 non-renewable scholarship and a laptop computer.

Crumley & Associates offers two scholarship opportunities through its Crib to College Foundation every year. The Crib to College Scholarship is for high school students who have been accepted to four-year, accredited colleges or universities. The Next Step Scholarship is for students enrolled in a community college or technical school who are transferring to an accredited, four-year college or university in the fall.

The winners of the Crib to College Scholarship competition were:

• Christina Anderson graduated from West Rowan High School in Salisbury NC. She will attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and plans to major in political science. She hopes to become a civil rights attorney.
• Demi Martinez graduated from Ronald Reagan High School in Pfafftown, NC. She will attend East Carolina University plans to major in premed. She hopes to become a pediatric anesthesiologist.
• Lucas Dunbar graduated from Pamlico County High School in Bayboro, NC. He will attend North Carolina State University and plans to major in aerospace engineering. After he graduates, he hopes get into NASA's astronaut or space research and development program.
• Elspeth Crawford graduated from Asheboro High School in Asheboro, NC. She will attend UNC -- Chapel Hill and plans to major in premed and Spanish. After med school she hopes to focus on women's health and practice in rural North Carolina.
• Dericka Burleson graduated from McDowell High School in Marion, NC. She will attend Elon University and plans to major in elementary education. She hopes to teach second or third grade.

The winners of the Next Step Scholarship competition were:

• Nadege DeLake attended Durham Technical Community College in Durham, NC. She will attend UNC-Chapel Hill and plans to study pre-law. She wants to become an attorney.
• Jeremiah Chatham attended Southwestern Community College in Sylva, NC. He will attend UNC Asheville and plans to study academics with the hope of becoming a professor at a university and teaching history.
• Lorie Gibson attended Stanly Community College in Albemarle, NC. She will attend Gardner Webb University and wants to pursue a career in counseling. After graduating she would like to open a Christian half-way house for ladies struggling with abuse and dysfunctional behaviors
• James Hoover attended Cape Fear Community College in Wilmington, NC. He will attend UNC-Wilmington to study criminal justice. He hopes to have a career with the US Marshals or the FBI.
• Robin Potawsky attended Catawba Valley Community College in Hickory, NC. She expects to attend UNC-Charlotte and plans to study education. She wants to get her master's degree in English and teach at a community college.

Crib to College Scholarship applicants were required to be graduating high school seniors with a 3.0 or higher GPA who have been accepted to a four-year accredited university or college in the fall. Judging was based upon the applicant's community involvement and written answer to an essay question about the law and safety. Applicants were also required to submit three letters of recommendation, with one of them coming from someone associated with a nonprofit or community service agency.

Next Step Scholarship applicants were required to be enrolled at a community college, have a 2.5 or better GPA and be accepted to an accredited college or university in the fall. Like Crib to College Scholarship applicants, judging of the Next Step Scholarship applicants was based upon their written essays about the law and safety and letters of recommendation.
