Waxhaw, NC (PRWEB) June 23, 2007 -- Homes for Our Troops, a Massachusetts based 501 (c)(3) organization that builds and adapts homes for handicap accessibility for our most severely wounded veterans will be reaching out to the local community members to help provide a new home for SGT Jonathan Roberts. On August 17, 2005 SGT Jonathan Roberts was struck by an 18 wheeler in Baghdad.
Jon was on his way to pick up an officer from the airport when he rounded a corner and saw a semi truck coming straight for him. Jon swerved the car and struck a tree on the other side of the road. He was then struck by the semi. After these two major jolts, Jon was rushed to the hospital where they performed emergency brain surgery. Jon spent the next 3 months in a coma. He has since started to learn the basic functions most of us take for granted.
Jonathan's home is one of five projects that Homes for Our Troops has undertaken in NC. Homes for Our Troops has completed work on barrier-free homes in Fayetteville and Roxboro and the project in New Bern is well underway. Homes for Our Troops has also committed to building a home in Lumberton.
Now Homes for Our Troops is hoping to replicate the local business involvement and the community volunteerism in the Waxhaw area for another wounded American Hero. Homes for Our Troops has committed to building a home for Jonathan to suit his living needs. We will be calling on local residents and businesses to donate building materials, services, professional building labor and monetary donations to help with Jonathan's home.
