(PRWEB) June 23, 2007 -- StoryCorps, a national project to document the everyday history and unique stories of America, is coming to Concord, New Hampshire. In partnership with New Hampshire Public Radio and sponsored locally by Bank of America and nationally with AT&T and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, the Mobile StoryBooth will be in front of the Statehouse from July 5 through July 28. Reservations are required for participation and can be made on-line at www.nhpr.org. Participants can also make reservations by calling (800) 850-4406.

The Granite State is one of the stops on the national StoryCorps Mobile StoryBooth tour. NHPR is pleased to partner with StoryCorps to record the stories of everyday lives of New Hampshire's citizens. "StoryCorps has inspired thousands of listeners to tell their personal stories. Its broadcasts are among public radio's most popular weekly features," said NHPR President and CEO Betsy Gardella. "We can't think of a better way to cap off our year-long, 25th anniversary celebration than to bring the StoryCorps Mobile StoryBooth to New Hampshire, giving our listeners the opportunity to record and share their stories -- with the people of New Hampshire and the country."

NHPR will air a selection of stories from the project. Select stories will also air nationally on NPR's Morning Edition, the most-listened-to morning radio program in the country, each Friday. StoryCorps interviews are also available by podcast at www.npr.org.

StoryCorps was created by award-winning radio documentary producer and MacArthur Fellowship recipient Dave Isay. The project arranges for mobile recording booths to travel to every corner of the United States and, in coordination with local public radio stations, to document the stories of ordinary people living in America today. Dave Isay is visiting NHPR to speak about the project on June 28 on NHPR's The Exchange program.

"As StoryCorps continues its journey throughout the country, we are so proud to continue our mission in Concord, New Hampshire," said Isay. "As always, we hope to teach people to become better listeners, foster intergenerational communication among families and communities, and help us all to appreciate the strength in the stories of everyday people they find all around them," he continued.

At the Mobile StoryBooth, participants record in pairs - often times friends or loved ones - and one person interviews the other. A trained facilitator guides the participants through the interview process and handles the technical aspects of the recording. At the end of a forty-minute session, the participants walk away with a CD of their interview. With the permission of participants, a second copy will be sent to the American Folklife Center where it becomes part of a high quality digital archive.

NHPR is thankful for the StoryCorps project support provided locally by Bank of America. "Bank of America is pleased to support a project that is capturing history by talking to ordinary Americans," said Michael C. Whitney, president, Bank of America New Hampshire. "I am certain that StoryCorps will be able to obtain some unique and interesting anecdotes from our state's residents. We hope this will enrich the lives of everyone who hears the program."

Major funding for StoryCorps is provided by AT&T and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB). StoryCorps is a project of Sounds Portraits Productions in partnership with NPR and the American Folklife Center (AFC) at the Library of Congress.
