Founded in 1808, Bridgton Academy is the only college preparatory school in the nation offering a postgraduate year to prepare young men for the rigors of college and beyond by helping them develop the academic skills, study skills, self-discipline, and self-confidence necessary to succeed in college and in life.
North Bridgton, ME (PRWEB) June 25, 2007 -- Bridgton Academy is proud to announce that Kevin Hancock has been elected President of the Bridgton Academy Board of Trustees for the 2007-2009 term, having served as a trustee since 1997.
"The entire Bridgton Academy community is excited to have Kevin Hancock leading the Academy forward into its third century," said Headmaster David N. Hursty. "By every measure, the Academy is in a position of great strength, and Kevin has the leadership, professional experience, and personal commitment to Bridgton's mission and vision, both as a trustee and as a former teacher and coach here at the Academy, that are necessary to take this remarkable institution to the next level of excellence," Hursty continued.
Mr. Hancock succeeds Robert L. Teel, Jr.'65 as President of the Board of Trustees. Under Mr. Teel's leadership, the Academy constructed a multi-million dollar humanities center, developed a strategic plan for the school and maintained its 37-year accreditation by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.
"After four years of 'ground-breaking' activity, I am excited and inspired by the recent election of Kevin Hancock, Chairman, CEO, and President of Hancock Lumber Company, as Bridgton Academy's next President of the Board of Trustees," Mr. Teel said. "Nationally recognized for his entrepreneurial spirit and commitment to excellence,
he possesses the skills, knowledge, and heart to lead the Academy forward while also celebrating two hundred years of exceptional progress. I look forward to serving the board under his leadership, and I anticipate four of the best years in the Academy's history."
"It is an honor to serve as President of the Bridgton Academy Board of Trustees during this exciting time in the school's history," said Hancock. "Upon graduating from Bowdoin College in 1988, I served the Academy as a teacher, coach and dorm parent, and I have been in love with the school and its mission ever since. It is exciting for me to circle back later in my career and now serve the school in this capacity. Bridgton Academy has both a proud past and a bright future, and it is rewarding to be a part of it."
As Bridgton Academy enters its third century, Mr. Hancock will oversee several key initiatives, including the final stages of the Academy's capital campaign for a new academic center; the search for the school's next headmaster, as current headmaster David Hursty will retire in June, 2008; and welcoming the 200th class to the Academy this fall as the school celebrates its bicentennial anniversary next year.
After serving as a history teacher and head basketball coach at Bridgton Academy from 1988-1991, Mr. Hancock joined Hancock Lumber Company, Inc., a family business established in 1848, where he has ascended to President, Chief Executive Officer, and Chairman. Dedicated to community and industry service, Mr. Hancock has held leadership positions on several boards of trustees in addition to Bridgton Academy, including the National Lumber and Building Materials Dealers Association in Washington, D.C., and the Maine State Chamber of Commerce.
Founded in 1808, Bridgton Academy is the only college preparatory school in the nation offering a postgraduate year to prepare young men for the rigors of college and beyond by helping them develop the academic skills, study skills, self-discipline, and self-confidence necessary to succeed in college and in life.
