Heller's appointment to Maryland's Statewide Commission on the Shortage in Healthcare Workforce (www.waldenu.edu). Barbara R. Heller, Ed.D., R.N., F.A.A.N, is the vice president of strategic initiatives for nursing and health sciences with Laureate Education. Dr. Heller will be serving a two-year term as the Greater Baltimore committee representative on the commission, which was enacted as a legislative initiative in 2006.
Dr. Heller has more than 40 years of academic and leadership experience in public and private institutions in Maryland, Pennsylvania and New York. She has held several executive positions with the University of Maryland since 1981, including dean of the School of Nursing from 1990 to 2002 and executive director of the Center for Health Workforce Development.
The Commission on the Shortage in Healthcare Workforce was created in response to Maryland's severe shortage of health care workers.
