Members Take the Field for Charity at the 46th Annual Roll Call Congressional Baseball Game

Democrats vs. Republicans game continues a tradition begun by Roll Call in 1962

Washington, D.C. (PRWEB) June 25, 2007 -- Started in 1962 by Capitol Hill newspaper Roll Call, the 46th Annual Roll Call Congressional Baseball Game ushers in another year of good-hearted rivalry between Democrats and Republicans tonight at RFK Stadium. With gates opening at 6 p.m., Members of Congress will take the field at 7:30 p.m. to play for two charities, the Washington Literacy Council and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington.

Led by sophomore manager Rep. Mike Doyle (Pa.), the Democrats hope to erase the memories of last year's 12-1 GOP blowout. Republicans, armed with new manager Rep. Joe Barton (Texas), look to continue their recent dominance by earning their seventh consecutive victory. This year's game will also feature the return of former Redskins quarterback Heath Shuler (D-N.C.) to RFK Stadium. And as part of the game's long-standing tradition, the coveted Roll Call trophy will be awarded to the winning team immediately after the last out. Free programs, provided by Roll Call, with full team rosters and game analysis are available in today's issue of Roll Call and at the game.

"This year's game features a Democratic youth movement against the Republican veterans, which should make for an exciting match-up," said Roll Call Managing Editor David Meyers. "We are proud to be a part of such a fun, meaningful event that does so much for Washington, D.C."

Approximately 5,000 fans are expected to fill the stands of RFK Stadium tonight. Last year's game raised more than $100,000 for local charities.

For tickets, which are free of charge, and additional game day information, contact the offices of Rep. Mike Doyle or Rep. Joe Barton.
