WebmasterRadio.FM to Go Silent Tuesday, June 26th

In response to impending royalty rates that threaten to shut down U.S. Internet radio, WebmasterRadio.FM joins thousands of webcasters for a day of radio silence.

Fort Lauderdale, FL (PRWEB) June 26, 2007 -- WebmasterRadio.FM, the premier free, 24/7 Internet business radio network focused on the B2B marketplace, will air the sound the silence on Tuesday, June 26th.

During this broadcast day, no programming will be available streaming live. Archived programming will still be available on-demand at www.WebmasterRadio.FM. Some regularly scheduled Tuesday programs may be pre-recorded and available in the archives.

The Internet radio "Day of Silence" has been organized in response to an impending royalty rate increase that, if implemented, could lead to the virtual shutdown of Internet radio in the United States. WebmasterRadio.FM and thousands of webcasters plan to go silent next Tuesday, June 26, to draw attention to the industry's plight.

On or shortly after July 15th, 17 months' worth of retroactive royalty increase payments are due to the SoundExchange collection organization under the terms of a recent Copyright Royalty Board (CRB) decision. Webcasters across the nation are standing in solidarity to show their listeners that "silence" may be soon what Internet radio sounds like if the decision is upheld.

"Internet radio has leveled the playing field across many industries by creating broadcasting opportunities not previously available," said WebmasterRadio.FM Vice President of Marketing Brandy Shapiro-Babin. "While this decision doesn't affect WebmasterRadio.FM, it does threaten many broadcasters and their networks, which is why we have decided to stand with the industry against this ruling."

A previous "Day of Silence" was organized by small webcasters on May 1, 2002 in response to a similar royalty rate ruling from a Copyright Arbitration Royalty Panel. The event garnered national attention and was subsequently followed by a rate cut by the Librarian of Congress and the passage of the Small Webcaster Settlement Act for the period 1998-2005.
