Looking to share her passion for the environment, good food and gardening with others, Kw'o:kw'e:hala was founded by Sue VandeVelde-Savola in 2004. From the very beginning, it was imperative to Sue that every detail of the Kw'o:kw'e:hala experience is carefully thought out to maximize comfort and minimize the impact on the land. Accommodation at Kw'o:kw'e:hala is provided in one of the three unique guest cabins, including one of the few remaining original buildings from the Kettle Valley Railway, a restored homestead log cabin, and a building made entirely from recycled materials. The bedding is all-natural and rechargeable lamps light up the cabins.
Food lovers will revel in dining at the retreat where most everything is organic and sourced locally, or grown in their very own organic garden. Guests can choose to relax and have their meals prepared for them, or join Sue in the kitchen to pick up some helpful hints and learn new recipes. From Breakfast Casserole with Fresh Organic Baby Spinach, Extra-aged? Cheddar, Fresh Organic Herbs and Organic Walla Walla Onions to start your day, to Cedar-planked Local Wild Fraser River Sockeye Salmon, Grilled Outdoors with Organic Citrus, and Freshly-picked Organic Rosemary for dinner, all of the meals at the retreat are wholesome, fresh and nutritious.
Apart from eating and sleeping, the days at Kw'o:kw'e:hala can be spent in many ways. Be it relaxing in the open-air wood-fired hot tub, taking in a massage, detoxing in the Finnish wood-fired sauna, or getting active and cycling part of the Kettle Valley Railway, bird watching or hiking, there is something for everyone.
Kw'o:kw'e:hala is open from mid-April through mid-October and offers a variety of packages to suit each guest. From all-inclusive packages with meals and fully guided enrichment activities, to special experience packages where guests can learn everything from authentic basketry and weaving, to more about the local ecology with one of the regions most knowledgeable naturalists.
