Boston Tea Company Announces Collaboration with Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization

Historic company to offer 'Tea Leaves for Life™' with $1 per specialty tin donated to help educate and empower those affected by breast cancer.

Hackensack, NJ (PRWEB) July 5, 2007 -- Boston Tea Company, Inc. today announced a collaboration with Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization™, that will support the organization's mission to provide information, empowerment and support to anyone touched by breast cancer. Boston Tea Company will provide financial support to the organization through the sale of its specially created Bentley's Finest Teas 'Tea Leaves for Life™', an assortment of flavored green teas rich in the powerful antioxidant epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) which has been linked to reducing free radicals, molecules that can damage healthy cells, in the body*. The Bentley's teas are available in six gourmet green tea flavors including Oriental Treasure, Pomegranate, Mango, Papaya, Raspberry and Blueberry.

"We are honored to be supporting Y-ME in its efforts to provide information, support and empowerment to the millions of people affected by breast cancer each year," says Andrew Jacobs, president of Boston Tea Company. "Y-ME was our first choice as a national charity partner. Until there comes a time when breast cancer is no longer a threat to our mothers, sisters, wives and daughters, there is no goal more laudable than to support those affected by this devastating disease."

Y-ME® is a Chicago-based national nonprofit organization with the mission to ensure, through information, empowerment and peer support, that no one faces breast cancer alone. Y-ME does not raise money for research but rather is here today for those who can't wait for tomorrow's cure.
At the center of the organization is the Y-ME National Breast Cancer Hotline, the only 24/7 call center operated by trained peer counselors who are breast cancer survivors. The hotline takes more than 40,000 calls a year. Y-ME counselors do not give medical advice but give emotional support and information about breast cancer, procedures and treatment options. Hotline calls are interpreted in 150 languages by calling 800-221-2141 or for Spanish at 800-986-0505.

"We are so pleased to see Boston Tea taking a proactive approach in supporting its customers through the Tea Leaves for Life campaign" says Margaret C. Kirk, Chief Executive Officer for Y-ME National Breast Cancer Organization. "Boston Tea has a unique opportunity to provide its customers and their family and friends network with breast health and support information they can use today. "

"This year in the United States an estimated 180,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer," continues Jacobs. "Boston Tea has the opportunity not only to help support Y-ME's mission financially, but also to assist Y-ME in outreach and education efforts by placing information on our tins. From the comfort of their homes, consumers will be able to sip some of our finest teas and learn ways they can join our effort."

Boston Tea Company will be contributing a minimum of $30,000 to Y-ME through the sale of its Bentley's Finest Teas 'Tea Leaves for Life' available in tins and boxes direct at local retailers or via its Web site at www.BostonTea.com. The company will also be kicking off its collaboration with Y-ME at the Fancy Food Show in New York City July 8-10, 2007 at the Jacob Javits Center with cause-related marketing efforts and a customized pink tin to bring attention to the cause.
