"In our analysis, venting problems are preventing pellet and corn stoves from really catching on," said BDM marketing manager Joe Burns. "End customers love them, and the stove manufacturers love to build them, but the installation crews hate the maintenance and callbacks."

Burns said many installers were frustrated by the amount of up front installation time, and the fact they would have to return later to replace corroded venting. All of this made the "after sale" cost of pellet and corn stoves very high.

"Our customers gave us the idea for Bio Vent™," Burns said. "All we had to do was make it work."

And that wasn't easy.

Bio Vent™ was in development for months in various revisions and iterations. But eventually, Burns said, the company's engineering team solved the caulking issue with a powerful gasket, and selected the proper metal to resist corn pellet's corrosive effects.

The final product is just entering UL testing and is expected to be UL listed within 30 days.

The final Bio Vent™ product line will encompass all venting, joints, elbows, and pass-through components necessary for any pellet stove installation in both 3-inch and 4-inch diameter.
