College Recruiting is Now a Zinch

Starting June 1, 2007, a new company called Zinch will streamline the college recruiting process. Zinch is now allowing colleges and universities to access their student database to help with college recruiting. For the past few months Zinch has been helping thousands of high school students create profiles to market themselves to college recruiters bringing college admissions and college recruiting together.

(PRWEB) July 9, 2007 -- Zinch is a new and innovative college recruitment and student profile tool that will change the way that students and colleges find each other. Available to colleges and universities for the first time on June 1 are thousands of student profiles to facilitate the college recruiting process. Both students and colleges are being benefited by this new service.

Current college recruitment is based heavily on of SAT and ACT test scores. Colleges buy directories that list students who earned scores within a particular range. The students who make it onto these lists are those who have earned very high scores. So what happens to intelligent and talented students who don't make top marks on these tests? They often get under recruited, which, according to Zinch CEO and founder, Mick Hagen, is unfortunate and inefficient. He says, "Students should be able to be recognized and recruited for skills other than test taking ability. Zinch allows the student to present more complete information to colleges and universities. This way, students can be recruited based on much more than a test score.

Zinch CEO and founder, Mick Hagen, co-founded the company after his own experience with college applications and admissions. Although a smart and talented student, Mick didn't score exceptionally high on the ACT and SAT. He wanted to be "more than a test score" in the eyes of college admissions committees and to be considered for his skills and abilities aside from academics. Hagen felt that he had more to offer to a university than a test score would show. He put together his own portfolio, showcasing his skills and talents, which eventually got him accepted to Princeton.

Zinch makes it possible for students to showcase their skills without having to put together a portfolio from scratch. Free to students, parents, and counselors, Zinch is a website where students can go to put together their unique and easy portfolio of all their interests and skills. Students can begin working on their "Zinch" as a freshman or sophomore to develop a complete and diverse portfolio by the time they need to be seriously thinking about college admissions.

One of the resources on zinch.com is a tool called "The Shout Out." This tool allows students to choose which schools they want to see their portfolio, enabling them to increase their likelihood of being accepted to the university of their choice. According to Hagen, "The Shout Out is one of the best tools we have because it allows students to be proactive in the recruiting process."

Zinch encourages a level playing field where students of all backgrounds can have an equal opportunity to present themselves in the college recruiting process. Zinch especially helps minorities, students from low-income families, and first generation students to take an active role in getting into the college of their choice.

Not only is Zinch a valuable tool for students, it is also a valuable tool for colleges and universities. Beginning June 1, 2007, Zinch is making their student profiles available to schools for recruitment purposes. "We feel Universities have much to gain from more complete information earlier in the college admissions process," says Hagen. Zinch is subscription based for universities, and according to Hagen, "Universities are interested in this information because of the unique and well-rounded image of the student portfolios displayed."

Zinch was recently featured in the chronicle of higher education, which helped them reach out and make more schools aware of this distinctive and innovative college recruitment resource.
