Lake Shore Cryotronics Introduces New Far Infrared & THz Band Pass Filters

New Lake Shore band bass and narrow band pass filters are now available for astronomy, spectroscopy, research, and testing. These novel metal mesh technology-based filters have center wavelengths from 15 µm to 200 µm.

Westerville, OH (PRWEB) July 11, 2007 -- Lake Shore Cryotronics has introduced a new line of band pass and narrow band pass filters available with center wavelengths from 15 µm to 200 µm. These filters are based on a novel metal mesh technology originally developed in tandem with the NASA SBIR program to support the needs of the astronomy community.

The filters are designed with patterned, cross-shaped holes that allow transmission of light at specific wavelengths. Center wavelength (CWL) transmissions up to 80% have been achieved with a CWL tolerance of ±0.1 µm and out-of-band transmission down to 0.5%. The filters exhibit excellent thermal properties with stable and repeatable performance down to 4 K. The filters are 1 mm in depth, enabling entry into existing filter wheels, cryostats and compact optical instruments.

The band pass filters, along with Lake Shore's established line of porous silicon-based long wave pass filters, can be used in a variety of applications including space-based astronomy, ground or airborne astronomy, FTIR and THz spectroscopy, among other electro-optics research and testing.

Many standard filters are currently available from stock and continued research and development will further extend the performance capabilities of the technology. Custom designs and sizes are available upon request.
