Saving Grace: A Family Turns Frustration into Inspiration
CountryBeeSoaps.com announces new products for chemical sensitivities.
Goodells, MI (PRWEB) July 12, 2007 -- CountryBeeSoaps.com announces new products for chemical sensitivities.
Amy Oliver was born 100 years too late. The classic dichotomy, this former computer administrator longs to return to a simpler time -- one in which the products we use everyday were both natural, and safe to use. Leaving the corporate world behind, Amy launched Country Bee Soaps in the basement of her Michigan farmhouse - featuring line of cold processed soaps and sundries that incorporated her father's own beeswax as a natural humectant and hardener. Little did she know that her interest in natural skincare products would take on a significance far greater than she had ever imagined.
Shortly after the birth of their daughter, Gracie, Amy and her husband Rob began to notice symptoms that were ultimately determined to be allergic reactions - a condition that would follow Gracie throughout her toddler years. It didn't matter which foods Gracie ate, she would break out into a rash either on her face, or her entire body, up to twice daily. Gracie's sensitivities weren't limited to food; she was affected by airborne particles in her environment, everyday household items, and even some of her toys. Something had to be done.
Months passed -- marked by trips to doctors, allergists, and the emergency room. "We were desperate for answers," explains Amy. "I began the process of "cleaning up" our lives -- eliminating harmful chemicals and synthetics from the food we ate, and the products we used. We knew we needed to remove any potentially harmful chemicals or toxins from our home. We had our home tested for molds, EMF's, and our water was tested," she added. Soon afterward, they eliminated the large amount of plastic in their home. While Amy still uses some plastic for food storage, the majority has been replaced by glass, steel and wood.
From the information she'd gleaned researching Gracie's illness, Amy discovered that fragrance oils were literally full of toxic chemicals. She subsequently eliminated all fragrance oils from the Country Bee product line. "Even though we weren't using these products on Gracie, I knew that we didn't want our customers to be subjected to these ingredients, either. Fortunately, the fragrance oils were the only synthetic ingredient in our soaps, and we quickly replaced them with essential oils."
The Olivers ultimately found the help they'd been searching for - enlisting the help of both an alternative medicine practitioner, as well as a nutritionist. Today, they are preparing foods the way that our ancestors did, in order to that preserve the natural bacteria that is so beneficial to our health. While they have a long way to go, they are confident that soon Gracie will be able to eat and play the same way that other children do. At 22 months, she has started to sleep through most of the night again.
Gracie's ordeal inspired Amy to create a line of baby products for parents of children who found themselves in similar circumstances. Amy explains, "We decided upon the name "Saving Grace" -- the significance of which is twofold. First, the journey that we took with Gracie to overcome her illness; and second, to reflect how this journey has benefited our family by removing harmful chemicals from our lives."
This year, Country Bee celebrated nature with several new organic and natural product introductions -- including a beeswax and essential oil wood polish, leather protector, cuticle oil, herbal facial grains, and herbal "boo-boo" pads, just to name a few.
