Object and The Echo Present Lady Party July 17; Inaugural Event of Consciousness-Raising Confab to Celebrate The Conversation Among Women

Jessica Valenti ("Full Frontal Feminism"), "F--- Christopher Hitchens," female-fronted Journey tribute Infinity, singer-songwriters Michelle Featherstone and Jonneine Zapata, Girl Game Never Have I Ever, More, to Kick Ass.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) July 12, 2007 -- OBJECT, an antidote to the side-choosing women's politics of the past, and the Echo will present OBJECT's kick-off event, Lady Party, Tuesday, July 17, 2007, at the Echoplex, at 8:00 p.m. Tickets are $5.00. The Echoplex is located at 1154 Glendale Blvd., between Park Ave. and Scott Ave., in the Echo Park section of Los Angeles (no entry on Sunset Blvd.; valet parking will be available). Lady Party is an all-ages happening.

"We gobble up the daily gossip about Paris, Lindsay and Britney, but no one talks about how hard it is for young women to handle the intense pressure they're under to be sexual objects," says Lindsey Horvath, co-founder of OBJECT. Newly formed, with its first chapter in Los Angeles, OBJECT has borrowed the consciousness-raising traditions of the late '60s to take up The Conversation among women about sexuality and empowerment. To learn more about OBJECT, go to www.SayObject.com.
Among other festive objectives, Lady Party will applaud the release of Jessica Valenti's "Full Frontal Feminism" (mistress of Feministing.com, the author will sign copies of her critically acclaimed book); unveil "F--- Christopher Hitchens: 10 Funny Female Acts in 10 Minutes," L.A. comic actor Jamie Denbo's challenge to the pundit's assertion that "women aren't funny," featuring Jessica Chaffin, Jen Kirkman, Dana & Julia, Mindy Kaling, Mary Birdsong, plus other faces from "The Office," "Reno 911," "The 40-Year-Old Virgin" and The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre; showcase female-fronted Journey tribute band Infinity and singer-songwriter-truthtellers Michelle Featherstone and Jonneine Zapata; and attempt the world's largest scrimmage of the revelatory girl game Never Have I Ever. OBJECT co-founder Jill Soloway will serve as mistress of ceremonies.

"Our goal with Lady Party is to celebrate and expand what we call The Conversation," Horvath continues, "which is simply an opportunity for women and girls to engage in open dialog about the challenges they face in defining themselves. We have a great time at our OBJECT gatherings. We all leave feeling energized, and we expect Lady Party to kick it up a notch."

Men are cordially invited to attend Lady Party, though OBJECT's regular meetings are open only to women.

OBJECT coalesced in the spring of 2007 after its founding members objected to billboards promoting the film "Captivity" that presented graphic depictions of violence against women. The subsequent removal of the offensive images provided a lightbulb moment, reminding OBJECT's initial objectors that they have the power to effect positive change. It also suggested that this power could be realized by other women and used for further good. The next step was The Conversation.

The Conversation is a safe space in which all women and girls are invited to explore the many and varied meanings of female empowerment. Through The Conversation, we are committed to sharing perspectives, breaking barriers and striving for understanding. We believe in the art of conversation and that all OBJECT's participants are artists. We trust in conversation for conversation's sake. There are no stupid questions or wrong answers. There are no taboos. There is no judgment. There is only our mutual growth in the hothouse of open communication.
OBJECT's participants, who meet casually once a month to have The Conversation, are writers, teachers, producers, activists, mothers, actors, publicists, students, visual artists, entertainment executives and achievers in other fields representing a broad spectrum of ages, backgrounds and beliefs.

OBJECT: It's how you say it.
