The list is comprised of unique brand restaurant concepts located in the U.S. and Canada. In order to qualify to be considered for the list, restaurant chains must have between 3 and 50 units with growth of at least 4 units, during their most recent four-month period of research. Research dates of discovery were 3/20/07-6/20/07.

Lakewood, CO-based Heidi's Brooklyn Deli who is number five on the list, also made the January 2007 list when they were ranked number eight.
Top ten lists are published four times per year (January, April, July, and October). Information for each list is derived and calculated from the continual process of in-house interviewing and re-verifying of more than 7300 restaurant chain concepts each trimester.
