Wales and West Utilities selects DigiCore
Vehicle tracking for 750 vans to optimise and protect mobile service teams.
(PRWEB) July 16, 2007 -- Wales & West Utilities, the gas distribution business in Wales and the South West of England responsible for around 34,000 km of gas pipeline, has appointed DigiCore to provide an advanced telematics-based vehicle tracking solution. Under the agreement, DigiCore will install its innovative C-track vehicle tracking tool across 750 vans used by field service teams operating from the Welsh borders to Cornwall, an area covering more than 1/6th of the UK.
Wales & West Utilities has been using a vehicle tracking system for a number of years, but recognised the need to adopt the latest technology that offered enhanced functionality and usability to better serve the fleet operating areas of its business. As a result, DigiCore was selected to develop and install a bespoke tracking solution that would enable the company to increase fleet efficiency, improve customer service and protect employees working remotely in the field.
Key improvements to the vehicle tracking solution will include enhanced mileage monitoring linked to existing servicing schedules enabling Wales & West Utilities to better manage the maintenance requirements of its vehicle fleet. Elsewhere, the system will be integrated with the company's dispatch system to optimise the workflow management process. This added capability will allow Wales & West Utilities to monitor resource availability and better manage work allocation by identifying the most suitable vehicle for a job.
Keeping its workforce safe is a fundamental requirement for Wales & West Utilities and so a sophisticated panic alarm system was needed that would provide service teams with added protection and peace of mind. As a result, DigiCore has developed a solution utilising both in-vehicle and mobile, handheld devices to enable employees -- especially lone workers -- to alert the company of any potential problems or incidents.
Mark Oliver, Head of Business Performance at Wales & West Utilities, commented: "This latest vehicle tracking solution from DigiCore will enable us to not only support the optimisation of our fleet operation by further increasing the efficiency of our mobile service teams, but also better protect our employees who operate remotely in the field. Furthermore, the C-track system has the flexibility to adapt to our changing requirements and handle future business and operational needs."
Tom O'Connor, Managing Director of DigiCore Ltd, said: "We are delighted that such a forward thinking organisation as Wales & West Utilities has chosen DigiCore to develop and implement its next generation vehicle tracking solution. The C-track system is fast becoming the solution of choice within the utilities sector, and this latest partnership further demonstrates the value it can provide to fleet operators."
C-track is a sophisticated fleet management system that adopts the latest technology to provide a comprehensive real-time vehicle management tool. This proven solution provides vital information about mobile assets and workforce, and offers a scaleable mobile solution that meets the complex needs of car, van and commercial vehicle fleet operators.
