'The Interior,' New Internet Drama-Series Previews Online in Private Beta

Edgy jungle thriller brings unique vision to Internet viewers - and allows the creators to be pioneers in the uncharted world of Internet production.

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) July 17, 2007 -- Six months ago, a new Internet series, 'The Interior', conducted the world's first completely open, online talent casting call for a drama series.

Now, after production in the rainforests of Central America, the first episode of 'The Interior' is viewable online via invitation at http://www.theinterior.tv. The noir thriller -- the story of a young missionary couple in the jungle whose lives spin horribly out of control -- is currently in previews to an invitation-only audience. Viewing requests can be submitted only at 'The Interior' website.

The Internet allows us to create something we're passionate about and produce it exactly the way we see it--without compromises
According to the writing-directing team of Geert Heetebrij and Helmut Schleppi, founders of DreamScape Films, the 13-part series is fully utilizing the unique powers of the Internet to finance, produce, show and build audiences for entertainment programming.

Heetebrij and Schleppi are experienced filmmakers. Their 2003 feature film, 'A Foreign Affair' (released on DVD as '2 Brothers and A Bride') featuring David Arquette, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and has been distributed worldwide.

A third team member is Ming Chan, Emmy® Award-winning interactive advertising consultant, who helped conceptualize how the series could be an all-Internet event. His dramatic website design for the show is essential to the series, his partners said. Chan is the CEO of The1stMovement interactive agency (www.the1stmovement.com)

"The Internet allows us to create something we're passionate about and produce it exactly the way we see it--without compromises," said Heetebrij. "Our model comes from the music business where high-profile rock groups have challenged the status quo and gone directly to the public with their music."

The duo's first-hand experience of the Internet's power came through Schleppi's documentary on cult favorite rock band Dispatch who used the Internet masterfully to market their music. "We believe there is an eager public who will support collaborative, Internet-based drama in much the same way," said Schleppi.

The duo plans to allow the Internet audience to help dictate the direction of the show. "The website is key to our vision," Schleppi added. "We expect people to become involved with all aspects of 'The Interior', and in effect will become part of our story through their involvement. Community involvement is the key to Internet drama."

Initially, 'The Interior' was shopped through traditional show business channels, but the duo was told it was either too dark or too "out there." Instead, Schleppi and Heetebrij are showing their series as they shot it, and placing it directly in the hands of the public.

"We're either utterly mad - or total visionaries," Heetebrij laughed.

To date, total out-of-pocket production costs for the series is $75,000, the producers said.

Equipment manufacturers JVC, IDX and Ste-Man loaned HD video cameras, batteries, and camera support to 'The Interior' shoot.
