The formula for success is simple: practice and concentration then more practice and more concentration.

Mike Fuljenz, President of Universal Coin & Bullion believes that "in golf as in life, it is the follow through that makes the difference." Fuljenz's two year quest to convince the Texas Legends Junior Tour to select Southeast Texas for one of its tournaments proves that assumption. His follow through resulted in the "Babe Zaharias Junior Championship" being scheduled in his hometown of Beaumont, Texas. The date of the event is August 6-7 2007 at the Beaumont Country Club.
"It is an absolute honor for Beaumont, Texas to be the host city for the 'Babe Zaharias Junior Championship.' What better place to have a 'Babe Zaharias tournament' than in virtually her own backyard." Mike Fuljenz stated. "Some people might not know that Babe Zaharias was one of our very own. She was born in Port Arthur, Texas and was probably the greatest athlete that Southeast Texas has ever produced. She is famous for her mastery of golf but was equally renown for baseball, track, basketball, billiards, tennis, swimming and even playing the harmonica. She is certainly an individual that children today can emulate and follow her example to excel in all their endeavors as the Babe did." Mike Said.
Any area juniors that wish to participate should browse the http://www.texaslegendsjuniortour.org website (TLJT Website) for rules, directions and sign-up forms. The TLJT has operated for three years under the auspices of the Texas Golf Association (TGA). The 'Babe Zaharias Junior Championship' is not the only event named after leading Texas golfers, there is the Bruce Lietzke Junior at Gleneagles in Plano on Aug. 20-21 and others.
An article by Bob West of the The Port Arthur News, quotes Mike Fuljenz a major backer of the Southern Texas PGA Junior Tour as saying "These events give much needed exposure to area golfers to college coaches against the best statewide competition." Mr. West also quoted Mike Fuljenz in another statement "With the Babe Zaharias Junior being played at Beaumont Country Club, it gives area players a chance to compete against the best statewide competition on a course with which they have some familiarity."
Mike Fuljenz offered one of Babe Didrikson Zaharias famous quotations "The formula for success is simple: practice and concentration then more practice and more concentration." He reminisced that his good friend the late Lester Henderson, one of the original founders of his company, 'Universal Coin & Bullion' also had an apropos saying similar to Babe's, which was, "Practice doesn't make perfect but perfect practice makes perfect. If the participants of the 'Babe Zaharias Junior Championship' follow these mantras, we will have one very exciting tournament here in Beaumont in August." Predicted Mr. Fuljenz.
Landing the tournament in Beaumont would never have happened if it weren't for the cooperation of the Babe Zaharias Foundation. "Our foundation's mission is to promote the legacy of Babe Didrikson Zaharias. Anything that promotes junior golf and Babe Zaharias, we support one hundred percent." Mr Pate the foundation's president said. "By lending Babe's name to this terrific event, we hope to encourage young men and women to participate in the great game of golf.
Anyone coming to Beaumont for this event can learn much about Mildred "Babe" Didrikson Zaharias by visiting the Zaharias Museum & Visitors Center. The Museum is located at: 1477 N Martin Luther King Pky, Beaumont, Texas. There you will find memorabilia and trophies that characterize some of the great accomplishments of this all-American; three gold Olympic medals; world-class pioneering woman golfer.
Mike Fuljenz and his company Universal Coin & Bullion hope that this event will be the first of many more to come for this area. We are proud to be associated with this tournament and hope that the great accomplishments of this Texas Legend, Mildred "Babe" Didrikson Zaharias, will inspire more of our youth to greatness.
