She is a role model and the entire team at LÄRABAR will avidly follow her attempt to make history.
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) July 19, 2007
LÄRABAR® (http://www.larabar.com), the original fruit and nut food bar®, will help to fuel Roz Savage (http://www.rozsavage.com) as she attempts to be the first woman to row solo across the Pacific Ocean. This 3-stage row, which will complement her 103-day crossing of the Atlantic in 2006, is planned to launch from the Presidio Yacht Club in San Francisco, California next week. The voyage is a project of the Blue Frontier Campaign and is associated with Conservation International, National Environmental Trust, Oceana and NOAA -- all in effort to raise awareness of ocean pollution and conservation.
Stage 1 of the row will cover 2,300 miles between San Francisco and Hawaii. Savage plans to row 8 hours a day, and has an anticipated arrival in Hawaii of October 2007. The boat, 'The Brocade', is 23 feet long, 6 feet wide, has two cabins (one for sleeping, one for supplies) and a single rowing position in the middle. 'The Brocade' is outfitted with the best nautical equipment, including state-of-the-art technology to transmit daily images to shore as well as collect data on physiology, psychology, navigation, weather and the environment. Savage will eat approximately 3,000 calories a day, bringing a total of 900,000 calories (or 76kg, almost 20kg more than Savage's current weight) on the boat. Her diet will be made up of freeze-dried meals, LÄRABARS and sprouted beans, which she will grow on-board. Her shopping list for Stage 1 includes:
- 75 freeze-dried dinners (assorted)
- 200 packets of jerky
- 200 bags of mixed salted nuts
- 560 LÄRABARS
- 5 x 500g bags of freeze-dried prawns
- 10 x 300g bags of freeze-dried sweetcorn
- 10 x 300g bags of freeze-dried peas
- 10 x 300g bags of freeze-dried kidney beans
- 4kg of mung beans and adzuki beans for sprouting
- 4 x 1.6kg jars of Go Electrolyte
- 2 x 1.6kg jars of Rego Protein
- USANA vitamin supplements
With approximately 205 calories per LÄRABAR, Savage will eat 5 bars per day, choosing from her favorite flavors; Apple Pie, Ginger Snap, Banana Cookie, Cherry Pie, Cocoa Mole and Cinnamon Roll.
"I love LÄRABAR because I like to know what I'm eating. I don't want a list of ingredients that looks like a chemistry experiment," said Savage. "The bars are pure, healthy and very, very tasty. And because the ingredients are so close to their natural state, less energy is used in the production process, and less is contributed to climate change. So as well as being good for my body, LÄRABARS are good for the environment."
