Many beginning digital scrapbookers feel frustrated by their inability to learning materials that not only focus on a single project, are accompanied by the materials required to make the exact project being demonstrated. They don't feel quite ready to apply the knowledge they are learning without doing exactly what they are being shown.
This problem was discovered one afternoon when Mandy Steward, one of three partners on Scrap Girls Management Team, tried to teach her mother how to make a digitally created greeting card. Mandy quickly learned that the process was far more difficult for her inexperienced mother than she would have imagined. "I was amazed by the questions my mom asked," Mandy said. "She needed more help than I realized was necessary. When you're saturated in this industry, you tend to assume that everyone knows how to complete minor steps. You also believe that beginners understand insider software and scrapbooking terms."
Mandy's mom envisioned a digital scrapbooking package that included step-by-step, detailed instructions for creating a greeting card from Start to Finish. She suggested to her daughter how helpful it would be if this package included the product she needed and if she was told exactly what to do with it. As a result, Scrap Girls Start to Finish eBooklets were born.
As the first eBooklets were written Mandy's Mom became a pivotal part of the editing process. She tested them and gave feed back to the Scrap Girls editorial team about what languages she didn't understand and what steps she felt she needed so that she could successfully complete the demonstrated project.
The line quickly expanded from digital greeting cards to eBooklets that teach how to create digital scrapbooking layouts and how to create digital scrapbooking supplies from start to finish. The line currently includes eBooklets for Adobe's Photoshop and Photoshop Elements software, but will expand in the future to include Corel's Paint Shop Pro as well.
