Going Green: Miami Beach Mayoral Candidate Does Her Part

Mayoral Candidate for Miami Beach and self-professed "tree hugger," Matti Bower, wants more green space.

Miami Beach, Fla. (PRWEB) July 26, 2007 -- It's the hot button topic these days and a main focal point of this week's YouTube Debate. Miami Beach Mayoral candidate Matti Herrera Bower is not shying away from it. "Going Green" -- it's something Bower has been preaching long before it became vogue to do so.

"I have been involved with Green Spaces since the late 70's where I and other concerned citizens used to tree hug in order to save them from being cut down."

A Green Space is often referred to as a Green Belt. It is an area of largely undeveloped wild or agricultural land surrounding or neighbouring an urban area. A similar concept is the greenway which has a linear character and may run through the urban area instead of around it. The more general term in the U.S. is green space or greenspace, which may be a very small area such as a park.

"Going Green locations that are very important in Miami Beach now are:

1. The Indian Creek Greenway; and
2. The landscaping alongside street improvements that can be seen in diverse areas of the City."

"As Commissioner I have tripled the parks budget and I specifically pushed for an arborist to be hired in the City of Miami Beach to oversee the proper pruning and maintenance of our trees."
