Cincinnati, OH (PRWEB) July 27, 2007
Saul Steinberg seemed to have a 'thing' for paper bags. The world-famous cartoonist for New Yorker Magazine created a number of artworks using paper bags. Sylvia Shor, the matriarch of the Duro Bag family, along with her daughter, Shelly, and granddaughter, Alana, were in attendance as the Cincinnati Art Museum debuted their newest exhibit featuring Saul Steinberg, in a private opening for members-only on July 20. Nearly 500 people turned out to view the "Illuminations" exhibit, which contains over 100 works by Steinberg, including several well-known pieces he created using paper bags. The three were greeted by the Cincinnati Art Museum's new director Aaron Betsky, who was pleased to learn about the collaboration with a local company in such a unique way.
Prior to the opening, Duro Bag Manufacturing Company (http://www.durobag.com), the manufacturer of paper bags in the world, and the Cincinnati Art Museum partnered on grocery bags made from recycled Kraft paper and embellished with masks reflective of the Steinberg style. These decorative mask bags were used to help bring awareness of the naturally recyclable nature of paper bags and to promote the art exhibit at the Greater Cincinnati Earth Coalition's Earth Day event on May 23 and Paddlefest 2007 on July 6.
"This is really great to finally see the exhibit," said Shelly Shor, who helped make the initial contact with the Art Museum. "As soon as we contacted the Art Museum they were very eager to work with us. It's been a thrill to see the Duro Bag used in such a unique and special way."
The Saul Steinberg exhibit runs through September 23. For more information about the exhibit, visit http://www.cincinnatiartmuseum.org. For more information about Duro Bag and the specially created bags, visit http://www.durobag.com
