Dr. Crouch's presentation, How to Mediate Employee Conflict, will be part of the line-up addressing a wide range of topics relating to laboratory management.

Dr. Crouch's presentation is intended to educate managers on exactly how to mediate between employees. When conflicts arise, the coercive management style no longer works, and must be updated with the times. Managers now need to negotiate with their staff as well as learn how to help them negotiate with each other. Audience members will also learn how to:

  •     Determine when problems can best be solved by Managerial Mediation
  •     Prepare the best context for a mediation meeting
  •     Perform the three primary tasks of the manager-as-mediator
  •     Negotiate agreements to prevent reoccurrence
Wayne Crouch, Ph.D., is a Master Trainer of Managing Workplace Conflict Subject Matter Expert with MTI Consulting (http://www.mediationworks.com). He specializes in conflict management, team building, team leadership, training, internal consulting skills, meeting facilitation, and communication skills training. Dr. Crouch is currently on the Faculty of the Corporate Education Center at Boston University and was previously a Management Development Consultant in the Executive Programs Division of Babson College. He has been associated with the College of Engineering at the University of Illinois, the Department of Communication at Michigan State University, the Liberal Arts Division of Babson College, the Naval Underwater Systems Center, and AT&T. Dr. Crouch has his B.S. in physics and mathematics and an M.S. in journalism from the University of Illinois, and his Ph.D. in the behavioral sciences/communication from Michigan State University. His work has taken him to India, Hong Kong, and Canada as well as major business centers in the U.S.

Lab Manager Boot Camp will be held on October 25, 2007 at the Massachusetts Medical Society in Waltham, MA. The conference is a one-day program of presentations for science professionals to develop or expand upon management and administrative skills.
