Futurists Launch Monthly Newsletter
Change)Waves, a new publication from the global futurist research and consulting firm Social Technologies, will help organizations stay ahead of the curve by highlighting the trends and issues shaping the future of consumer life, business, and technology.
Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) July 28, 2007 -- At the opening of the World Future Society annual conference in Minneapolis today, the futurist research and consulting firm Social Technologies launched its newest product--a monthly newsletter called Change)Waves.
The 16-page, four-color publication is packed with reporting on global trends, interviews with innovators, book reviews, info graphics, and more.
"We are thrilled to launch Change)Waves at this important conference," says Tom Conger, founder of Social Technologies. "We have been longtime members of the World Futures Society and it seemed like the perfect event to unveil our latest offering."
The premiere issue
Chris Carbone, Social Technologies director of programs and the executive editor of Change)Waves, says he is looking forward to sharing some of the most important trends Social Technologies is tracking.
"Our goal is to help thousands of professionals in corporations, government agencies, associations, and nonprofit organizations learn about the trends in consumer life, business, and technology that we know are going to impact their businesses in the years to come," Carbone says.
Pointing to the cover story, "The Future of Chinese Global Brands," he notes, "With all the attention being placed on the future of China, we thought it appropriate to kick off the premiere issue with our take on a China-focused topic. John Cashman, who heads up Social Technologies' Shanghai office, authored this important article, and offers five forecasts about the future of Chinese global brands."
Other topics covered in the premiere issue include a map of nanotech hotspots, selling to the world's poor, Martha Stewart's new co-branded housing developments, and an interview with a plug-in hybrid car owner and advocate, Felix Kramer.
Future issues of Change)Waves will feature reporting on a variety of trends and emerging issues in these and other areas:
| | - business practices
- health & medicine
- demography
- science & technology
- consumer life
- society & culture
- environment & sustainability
- values & attitudes
|
It will also include regular columns including:
| | - The Futurist's Toolbox--Authored by Andy Hines, Social Technologies' director of custom projects and an adjunct professor of futures studies at the University of Houston, this column will show readers how to apply futures tools to real business issues.
- FutureThinkers--Business and NGO leaders, inventors, researchers, and other experts will discuss how their industries are changing and how they are adapting to emerging issues and trends.
- ChangeMakers--This regular feature will showcase interviews with people who are living the future… today. Learn what it's like to live in a zero-energy home, to do gene-based genealogy, to attend an online high school--and what all this means for the future.
- The Future in Print--Change)Waves will keep readers abreast of the best new print resources through book reviews and interviews with the authors of future-focused books.
- Innovation Watch--Change)Waves will help readers keep tabs on the latest developments emerging from research labs around the world and what these advances mean for the future.

Into the future
Carbone and his editorial and design team will spread the word about the newsletter throughout the fall, and the first regular issue of the publication will hit mailboxes in January 2008. The topic for that cover story: "The Future of Happiness."
In addition to the monthly print publication, subscribers to Change)Waves will gain access to content. They will be able to review and search current and past issues, as well as additional trend information organized using the same framework as the trends in the print edition (business practices, demography, consumer life, environment & sustainability, health & medicine, science & technology, society & culture, values & attitudes).
"The combination of a highly visual print edition and an ongoing stream of trend information online will help business leaders understand and stay on top of trends they need to know about," Carbone notes.
