Army Promotes RS Electronics Vice President to Brigadier General
Dick Miller, Senior Vice President of RS Electronics, a Michigan based wholesale distributor of electronic components, test and measurement equipment, and electrical products, was recently promoted to Brigadier General of the United States Army.
Livonia, MI (PRWEB) July 31, 2007 -- Dick Miller, Senior Vice President of RS Electronics, a Michigan based wholesale distributor of electronic components, test and measurement equipment, and electrical products, was recently promoted to Brigadier General of the United States Army.
In a ceremony held at the Indiana War Memorial Museum, Major General R. Martin Umberger, The Adjutant General of the State of Indiana, and Miller's wife, Christy, pinned the rank on Miller before a large group of family, friends, and distinguished guests. Major General Richard Moorehead, Division Commander 38th Infantry Division, then presented Miller with his general officer's pistol and flag. Miller then accepted his general officer's belt from his sons; Richard, Phillip, and Steven.
Brigadier General Miller went on to thank those assembled for their support over his military career; especially his wife Christy and their children for their understanding and shared sacrifices during his 33 years of service. He thanked Major General Umbarger for giving him the opportunity to serve as a General Officer in the United States Army. He also thanked Howard Taxe, President of RS Electronics, and shared how the support he has received for his military service has not wavered in the 19 years he has been employed by the company. He specifically thanked his RS Electronics co-workers for the outstanding support he received when he was deployed to Afghanistan, stating that it made the deployment easier for him, his family, and those who served with him. He closed by recognizing several fellow soldiers, officers and friends who were instrumental in coaching, mentoring and supporting him throughout his years of service.
Master of ceremonies was Lieutenant Colonel Tim Warrick, retired. Chaplin Colonel James Cotter gave the invocation and benediction.
Brigadier General Richard S. Miller began his career in 1972 as a private after enlisting as a technician in the Signal Corps. He attended the Indiana Military Academy OCS program and graduated in 1982 as an Infantry 2nd LT. Most recently, he was deployed to Afghanistan in 2004 and served as Commander RC South located in Kandahar, Afghanistan for Task Force Phoenix III. He commanded all Embedded Tactical Trainers in Southern Afghanistan and was the Senior Advisor for the 205th Corps of the Afghan National Army. He served in Afghanistan from August 2004 until mission completion in August of 2005. He is currently assigned as the Deputy Commanding General of the 38th Infantry Division, Indianapolis, Indiana.
Brigadier General Miller has been the recipient of numerous awards and commendations, among them the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Combat Infantry Badge.
Brigadier General Miller also holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Affairs from Indiana University (1984) and a Masters Degree in Strategic Studies from the United States War College (2003).
In civilian life, Dick Miller is employed by RS Electronics. Founded in 1929, RS Electronics is recognized as one of the oldest and largest electronics distributors in North America by leading trade publications. The company is privately held and has it corporate offices in Livonia, MI.
