St. Louis, MO (PRWEB) July 30, 2007 -- The Doe Run Company recently added three experienced industry professionals to its team. At the Herculaneum, Mo., smelting facility, Bruce Chamberlain joined as operations manager and Laura Sullivan was named human resources representative. At Doe Run's corporate office in St. Louis, Sandra Burkes has been appointed manager of metals sales.
As operations manager, Bruce Chamberlain is responsible for overseeing the operational systems of the Herculaneum smelter and achieving planned targets for environment, safety, quality and cost. In July, Chamberlain is focusing on bringing a new blast furnace online to reduce ventilation losses and improve dust capturing efficiency. Other projects include working with the management team to strategically select and implement lean manufacturing projects to further improve operational performance.
Chamberlain has more than 25 years experience in the chemical engineering field. He most recently served as operations manager at Bioteq Environmental Technologies, which builds and operates water treatment plants that provide metal recovery and sustainable environmental solutions.
Previously, he worked at Noranda Inc., now part of Xstrata, a leading supplier and recycler of metals. Other positions include general manager of Noranda's Micro Metallics recycling facility in Roseville, Calif., and superintendent of its Brunswick Smelter in Belledune, New Brunswick. Chamberlain earned a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the University of New Brunswick.
"Bruce has demonstrated leadership in virtually every critical position at a metals company -- from environmental coordinator to metallurgist," said Gary Hughes, general manager of the Herculaneum smelter. "We made this strategic hire for the collective experience he'll bring to the smelter from all of his positions, as well as his demonstrated success in each of them."
Laura Sullivan joins the Herculaneum smelter as human resources representative. Beforehand, she fulfilled the role of human resources analyst for Chesterfield, Mo.-based Maverick Tube Corporation, a manufacturing company recently acquired by Tenaris.
As Doe Run prepares its team members to meet the challenges of the global marketplace, Sullivan's experience in human resource management will provide employees with professional development for today's dynamic metals market. In her new position, Sullivan helps employees move through the professional development process, focusing on performance and education. Other responsibilities include supporting and fostering customer satisfaction and internal communications at all levels. Sullivan holds a certificate in human resource management from Villanova University and is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management.
At Doe Run's corporate office, Sandra Burkes joined as manager of metals sales. Formerly, Burkes worked for Pohlman, Inc., a St. Louis manufacturer of metal components for the automotive industry, where she held a variety of metals-related management positions. During her 14 years with Pohlman, Burkes served as program administrator and program manager. She developed the annual sales forecast for Pohlman's multi-million dollar business plan, managed sales representatives and established new business opportunities.
Burkes has also held management and administrative positions with Valentec-Olivette, a manufacturer of large caliber ammunition hardware for the U.S. Department of Defense. Burkes holds a master's degree in business administration from the University of Missouri-St. Louis, and a bachelor's degree in recreation and park administration from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
"We are pleased to welcome all of these new hires to the Doe Run team," said Bruce Neil, president of The Doe Run Company. "We actively seek high-caliber talent within the metals industry to add to our expertise and help us enhance the way we serve customers around the globe. The experience and passion each of these people have for our industry will help us as we continue to grow as the preferred global provider of premium metals and services."
