AbelCam 2.2 adds supports tilt/pan/zoom control for the Typhoon Motion Cam and comes with the AbelCam Network Camera Agent - a plugin to stream video from computers within a private network to the internet.

Seiz System Engineering announces the release of AbelCam 2.2, a video surveillance software to monitor and broadcast images and video streams to the internet or a mobile phone.

AbelCam supports popular Tilt/Pan/Zoom cameras like the Logitech Orbit, the Creative Live! Motion and the Typhoon Motion Cam. The software comes with a set of web page templates which support video streaming and tilt/pan/zoom control from any browser.

Since the first version release back in Jan 2005, Seiz System Engineering has constantly improved the software based on users feedback.

AbelCam Network Camera Agent

This version introduces the AbelCam Network Camera Agent. The Agent supports network cameras and local cameras. It has a built in web server and comes with a set of page templates which can be used out of the box.

The Agent can be used stand alone or as a plug in for AbelCam to provide additional cameras. It can run on the same computer or on any other computer within the same network. When used as plug in, AbelCam acts as a proxy to provide access to cameras within a private network that can not be reached from the internet otherwise.

"The AbelCam Network Camera Agent is the first of a series of Agents which will extend AbelCams capabilities far beyond a simple webcam application" says Stefan Seiz, owner of Seiz System Engineering. "We have many more ideas for interactive internet programs and have only scratched the surface so far," he adds.

AbelCam can be easily configured as a multi-cam solution, which usually costs at least a few hundred dollars if you choose other software.

AbelCam 2.2 provides all functionalities expected from a webcam surveillance software. Upon motion detection, AbelCam stores images or video on hard disk, uploads images to a ftp server or sends out email. Motion detection levels and actions can be configured individually for each camera. AbelCams broadcasting function can be performed simultaneously with motion detection.

AbelCam works with a wide range of webcams and video capture cards and supports TV tuners and supports more than 1000 capture devices. It is the right choice for those looking for an inexpensive and yet flexible video surveillance and broadcast solution for home and business use.

AbelCam is useful even when there is no webcam. It can use any internet camera as video source and perform motion detection, local save or ftp upload on those images.

AbelCams built in web server has powerful features other webcam software does not include like proxy support to use AbelCam as a front end for any other web server, execute commands on the computer running AbelCam through a browser and server side includes. The webserver can also be used to publish any digital content to the internet.

AbelCam can be controlled through a browser. It can be reconfigured from a remote location over the internet - of course this feature is password protected.

Use cases:
Surveillance
AbelCam monitors up to ten cameras. With support for motion detection, the software keeps an eye on homes and business and allows supervision from a remote location. Whenever AbelCam detects an intrusion or other unusual activity, the program can store images or video and alert the owner by email.

Parental control
AbelCam may run as a service and operate in 'stealth mode'. Screen capture enables a parent to see the home computers screen while they're away to prevent computer abuse.

Pet monitoring
AbelCam can be used to monitor animals from remote locations. It has been used to monitor birds nests and horse stables.

Animated videos
AbelCam may be configured to save an image into a video stream whenever a image is requested from a browser. Using this setup, it is very easy to record movies shot by shot and create animation sequences.

Time Lapse Videos
AbelCam includes JPEG2Video, a tool to convert JPEG images to videos. Using this tool, it just takes seconds to create a video from a collection of images. Those images may have been captured by AbelCam in regular intervals or on motion detection.

AbelCam runs on Windows XP and Windows Vista and uses .NET 2.0 and is available from http://www.multicamserver.com
