Kirk Smallidge of Aerodyne Alloys Appointed to MSCI Board of Directors

The Metal Service Center Institute, MSCI, announced the selection of Kirk Smallidge to the MSCI New England Chapter Board of Directors.

South Windsor, CT (PRWEB) August 4, 2007 -- Metal Service Center Institute (MSCI) has announced the selection of Kirk Smallidge to its Board of Directors in the New England Chapter. Mr. Smallidge serves as Product Manager at Aerodyne Alloys in S. Windsor, CT., and has been an active supporter of the metal industry's efforts to educate and improve its quality and productivity.

David Shaw, President of MSCI New England Chapter announced the appointment at a recent committee meeting. There was a vacancy on the Board, and after reviewing candidates, Mr. Smallidge was voted in. "I have known Kirk for some time, and his professionalism and dedication to help educate others in our industry is of vital importance to our mission. We are delighted to have him on the MSCI Board," said Dave Shaw.

Aerodyne Alloys has a history of supporting its industry, so Mr. Smallidge's appointment to the MSCI Board is part of that continuing process. Greg Chase, President of Aerodyne Alloys said, "We are very proud of this achievement and are totally confident that Kirk will serve the MSCI and our industry with excellence."

Most recently, Kirk co-chaired the Institute's Golf Outing Fund Raiser at the 2006 MSCI New England Chapter Scholarship Golf Outing. This event, which raises money for college scholarships for children of New England Chapter member company employees, took place at the Crestview Country Club in Agawam, MA. It was played as a Scramble event and drew 120 golfers.

The MSCI Foundation for Continuing Education is the entity responsible for the institute's education and training programs. The foundation board works with the staff to ensure that the educational programs provide a high return on investment for members, and that training programs improve member productivity.

MSCI education programs are organized into four different types of teaching and learning environments:

  • Senior Level Education Programs - Through a partnership with the Olin School of Business at Washington University in St. Louis, MSCI offers a series of multi-day, management-level education courses in such topics as business strategies, supply chain management, financial management, and high-performance organizations.
  • Full-scale training at central MSCI locations - These are full-day or multi-day sessions taught by one or multiple instructors that offer in-depth sales, operations, or general management training.
  • Tailored training for delivery at member sites - MSCI has recast a number of its training programs into half-day or full-day formats for delivery at member-selected sites.
  • Internet-based product knowledge - MSCI offers MetalLearn™, an Internet-based product knowledge system. Students may take the course from any computer- and Internet-equipped location, at their own pace. MetalLearn provides essential, basic information about the 10 most popular product lines sold by metals service centers.

"Kirk brings a whole new dimension to MSCI, considering we have typically been focused on ferrous metals. Kirk opens new avenues that will draw professionals from the "white metals" side of the industry, by offering his significant knowledge, and that is already taking place," added Mr. Shaw.

About the Metals Service Center Institute (MSCI): MSCI is a trade association that supports and represents most elements of the metals value chain, including metals producers, distributors, and processors and, to a lesser extent, the interests of metals users. Their primary membership consists of metals service centers - businesses that inventory and distribute metals for industrial customers and perform first-stage processing. The Institute has more than 350 members operating from about 1,200 locations in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, and elsewhere around the world. MSCI members constitute the largest single group of metals purchasers in North America, amounting each year to more than 75 million tons of steel, aluminum and other metals, with about 300,000 manufacturers and fabricators as customers.

"MSCI is a terrific networking opportunity for our members to learn from one another, observe trends, share cross-over data, and improve the industry. It's a real honor for me to be appointed to this Board, and I look forward to contributing in many ways," added Kirk.
