(PRWEB) August 11, 2007 -- Despite globalization and falling CD sales by major labels worldwide, Independent music labels are on the rise. Established just 3 years ago, Australia's Hardrush Music (www.hardrushmusic.com) has just achieved annual sales of 3 million and is now one of the Asia-Pacific's fastest growing music labels and distributors. With some 100 signed artists across all music genres, Hardrush is now amongst the top Australian-owned recording labels.
"Most of our sales are to mainstream music retailers and 20% of sales are overseas, mostly to the USA, Canada and Europe", says CEO Kelvin Fahey. "The big advantage that Independent labels have is that our artists are out there performing live, in the pubs, clubs and festivals so they have direct contact with their fanbase and sell hard copy CDs. Some of our artists are doing 20 performances per month, every month, so it really builds upon itself."
The company had a 5 year business plan with a focus on differing aspects of marketing its performers music. The first year was to establish a critical mass of artists across differing styles of music, the second year to issues quality releases, including landmark compilations such as "Big Day Indie", "Rush Australia", "Australian Contemporary Blues" and "In God's Country". The third year was to increase radio and television airplay and establish publishing. This year is to ensure artists profile in festivals and export markets. "All our efforts involve promotion, although we can't afford million dollar music videos and cars for radio jocks, we are very active in representing our artists with their quality product", added Fahey.
The sales results accompanied an expansion of the business with the addition of new Artist & Events Coordinators, Inga Milosec in Adelaide and Susie Munt in Sydney. Both are passionate about the development and promotion of independent music worldwide.
Whilst cross genre, the label's strengths are in Blues, Country, Christian, Pop, Rock and Urban. Some of the artists on the Hardrush label include OutKry, Tich Lange, Miss Teal, Sean Hale, Chris Gudu, The Rustlers, Andy Young Quartet, Buckley's Chance and The Fry Brothers. One of the best selling releases is from the million selling Sister Janet Mead.
