The Army's announcement came at roughly the same time experts in a U.S. Army Court Martial Trial gave testimony about the effects a brain injury may have had on Marine Cpl. Trent Thomas, who was on trial for helping to kidnap and execute an Iraqi man. A medical expert for the defense testified that Thomas survived more than 25 bomb blasts -- four of which knocked him unconscious -- which may have led to a brain injury that could have increased his aggression and limited his ability to disobey illegal orders. Despite this testimony, Cpl. Thomas was convicted on July 18, 2007 on charges of conspiracy and kidnapping. Thomas received no additional jail time, with a dishonorable discharge, according to the Marine Corps Times.
