Explosive Business Results radio recently featured the founder of Business Networking International (BNI) and acclaimed 'father of networking,' according to CNN. Hosts Steve Wiegert and Alan Boyer interviewed Dr. Ivan Misner Friday, August 3 about his newly released book "Masters of Sales."
During the interview, Dr. Misner revealed insights about networking as a necessary element in growing a business. "If you want to have a selling career, you have one very important need: customers! Networking is all about referrals of some kind," he said. "You can network anywhere, anytime, anyplace, but you have to remember two things. First, you must always honor the event and second, you have to understand what networking is. To me, it's about helping people. Friendships are give and take, so flip that into business and think, how can I help this person? If you can do that, where is it inappropriate to network? Nowhere," said the founder of BNI, a business referral network of more than 4,300 chapters worldwide. Wiegert, who has also been instrumental in developing 18 BNI chapters across Kansas City, contributing to 7165 business referrals passed in the last 6 months, said the BNI "givers gain" philosophy is apparent everywhere and can be effective for all small to medium size business owners and sales professionals who want to grow their business. "You have to develop longstanding business relationships, trust and reciprocity," said Wiegert. "If you build a relationship with someone and provide them with new customers, it will eventually come back to you."
Misner added that the "givers gain" concept is an idea based on the law of reciprocity. "It is not a transactional law. It's more about contributing to the greater good," he said. "The whole idea is that if you give people business, then you will get business in return. While passing out business cards is important, the most important part is getting to know people and making that connection," Misner explained.
"Masters of Sales" is the third book in Misner's Masters series. With more than 80 well-known contributing authors like Brian Tracy, Tom Hopkins, Zig Zigler, Martha Stuart and Jack Canfield to name a few, "Masters of Sales" is likely to be on the best-sellers list. http://www.mastersbooks.com.
