Park West Gallery Artist Biography series is pleased to invite the public to be inspired by the luminous artwork of Thomas Kinkade. The collection radiates with idyllic settings, glowing highlights and vibrant pastel colors. Through depiction of life's simple pleasures, Kinkade motivates his viewers with uplifting messages of harmony, optimism and spirituality.

Thomas Kinkade was born on January 19, 1958, and grew up in the small town of Placerville, California. He attended the University of California, Berkley and the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. A sketching tour with a college friend inspired Kinkade to produce what would later become a best-selling instructional book, "The Artist's Guide to Sketching." Kinkade then went on to create background art for the animated feature film, "Fire and Ice," produced by Ralph Bakshi Studios.

Soon after completing his work on the film, Kinkade explored his fascination with light and imaginative worlds through painting. His career developed through the sales of these original paintings in his galleries in California. In 1982 Kinkade married his childhood sweetheart, Nanette, and together they began to publish his paintings in the form of graphic works. Creatively incorporated into all of Kinkade's works is the letter "N" as a loving tribute to his wife.

Thomas Kinkade is America's most collected living artist, however not to be overlooked is his philanthropic work with numerous charitable causes. He was the national spokesperson for the Make-A-Wish Foundation®, a recipient of the World Children's Center Humanitarian Award, and was appointed Ambassador of a foundation founded by former President George Bush which promotes volunteerism and community service throughout America, the Points of Light Foundation.

Kinkade explains, "What I paint touches on foundational life values. Home, family, peacefulness. And one of the messages I try to constantly get across is slow it down and enjoy every moment." Each piece is a testament to Kinkade's devout Christian beliefs; his artistic talents used as a vehicle to communicate simple ideals and life-affirming values to his audience.
