Barely out of diapers in its three young years, Baby Loves Disco (http://www.babylovesdisco.com) has become an international family dance party phenomenon, with 18 cities involved and a launch this fall in the U.K.
This fall, the Loves Disco craze will reach to new levels as the nationally connected mom and pop organization prepares to launch a "Best Little Dancer in America Contest" (BLD USA), co-sponsored with stride rite -- http://www.babylovesdisco.com/bldusa/. Featured at 12 Baby Loves Disco events across the country, the contests will be judged by a panel of local celebrity parents and feature tiny dancers in two categories: infant to 3 years old and 4-7 years old. Videos of the local winners will be featured on the Baby Loves Disco website in September and the world will vote for a national champion. Everyone's a winner at BLD USA, as a portion of all proceeds will benefit Alex's Lemonade Stand.

A website will document each contest and showcase local winners, local parents and offer interactive dance lessons. A portion of all proceeds from these events (and much of the local focus) will go to BLD's charity of choice -- Alex's Lemonade Stand (http://www.alexslemonade.org/), a unique foundation that evolved from a 4-year-old cancer patient's front yard lemonade stand to a nationwide fundraising movement to find a cure for childhood cancer.
THE EVENT -- Baby Loves Disco is a national event that runs locally on a monthly or bi-monthly basis. The BLD USA competition will launch in conjunction with the fall season of Baby Loves Disco and held during the course of designated parties at 12 cities across the country: Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Orlando, Denver, Chicago, Seattle, Portland, Houston, San Diego, San Francisco and Atlanta.
While each Baby Loves Disco event will operate as usual, the stride rite dance contest will run for 15 minutes at a designated time and become the focal point of the September parties. Sign ups will take place at the event and be limited to the first 20 kids. There will be two categories -- infants to age 3 and ages 4 to 7. Winners will be decided by our "celebrity" parent judges. While there will be an actual "winner" in each category we will place a strong emphasis on the "everybody wins for trying" approach and award all participants with medals, a pair of stride rite shoes and heaps of praise. Each local dance contest winner will receive a prize package (donated by sponsors). The national winner will received a giant gift package including clothes, shoes, toys and a crown.
ONLINE -- A dedicated micro-site will be created and serve as the "newsroom" for the competition. Each regional contest will be filmed and edited into a 5 minute clip. The clips will feature footage of the local city, the venue, the contest itself, the announcement of the winner and an isolated clip of the winning dancer doing his/her 30 second dance of fame. Other video add-ons include online dance lessons; meet the family "reality TV" segments, videos on Alex's Lemonade Stand and sponsor components. Every participant will be a winner, and the spirit of cooperation and sportsmanship will be celebrated. All local winners can be voted on to become the National Champion starting on October 1 2007.
