Vinegar Rx: An Ancient Universal Emergency Essential Makes a Comeback, Says Disaster Preparedness Expert

Researchers at Busselton Hospital in Western Australia recently discovered that vinegar may be the anti-pain reliever for jellyfish stings. Disaster preparedness expert Cal Orey, author of, "The Healing Powers of Vinegar: A Complete Guide to Nature's Most Remarkable Remedy: Revised and Updated," praises vinegar home cures -- which medical experts worldwide believe can also be used for first aid and safety after natural disasters such as earthquakes, fires, floods, hurricanes, and tornadoes.

Lake Tahoe, Calif. (PRWEB) August 21, 2007 -- According to a recent article in The New York Times, vinegar -- its main ingredient acetic acid -- may get rid of pain fast and stave off the release of venom that jellyfish release. If people use vinegar to soothe soreness from nature's hazards, can it work as a cure-all medication for aches and pains in humans and animals after a natural disaster?

Author Cal Orey -- co-founder of Earthquake Epi-Center (www.earthquakeepi-center.com), a progressive disaster preparedness website established by emergency product provider Kim Barrow -- seems to think so. Her revised and updated book, "The Healing Powers of Vinegar: A Complete Guide to Nature's Most Remarkable Remedy," show that vinegars can help alleviate inflammation, relieve burning and itching, prevent infection, heal a variety of wounds, and much more.

"Yes, natural and man-made disasters can and do happen," Orey said. "While you want to stockpile medications that you, your family, and your pets are taking, you also want to have a first-aid kit for the home, office, car -- and don't forget vinegar. Pour apple cider vinegar into a safety plastic container, and store it with your emergency supplies."

According to Orey -- a South Lake Tahoe, Calif. resident who voluntarily evacuated the Angora Fire on June 26, 2007 and survived the World Series Earthquake in 1989 that rumbled through the San Francisco Bay Area -- vinegar is the medicine of the 21st century.

"Rather than trying to remember if you have every type of ailment remedy, with vinegar you will be covered whether you cut yourself, get a bruise, feel high anxiety or depressed, or run into anything health-wise that will irk you (or your companion animals) following a disaster," added Orey.

The disaster preparedness activist has concluded that budget-wise vinegar, which has been used internally and externally for centuries as a healing medicine, can aid other injuries and ailments, including: skin burns, canker sores, chapped skin, cough, earache, fatigue, headache, insomnia, rash, sore throat, sunburn, toothache, and fight pesky fleas and ticks. (An apple cider vinegar or red wine vinegar both have infection-fighting and immunity-boosting qualities to do the job.)

"It's the universal emergency, must-have remarkable remedy, whether you live on the West Coast, East Coast, Midwest, or any country in the world," Orey said.
