In reaction to the ongoing need for providing information and guidance to railroad employees who are injured on the job, the law firm of Williams Kherkher, based in Houston, Texas, has launched a Web site blog, whose URL is http://felalawyer.wordpress.com/. The blog is intended to provide visitors with the following types of information:
1. Updates on FELA and its applications to real-life situations;
2. News of lawsuits and claims being filed under FELA's theories;
3. News coverage of FELA-related events from around the world;
4. How to explore your legal rights and options under FELA.
"FELA" is a federal statute (45 U.S.C. § 51 et. seq. (1908), and stands for "Federal Employers Liability Act." FELA was ratified by Congress in 1908, and its legislative intent was to protect railroad workers who were injured while on the job. FELA gives railroad workers who are not covered by regular workers' compensation laws the ability to rightfully pursue legal claims for their injuries in the form of damages. FELA allows for monetary payouts in the form of damages for pain and suffering as well as medical expenses. Generally, these claims are decided by juries based on comparative negligence rather than a pre-determined benefits schedule under workers' compensation statutes which are common in most states.
Williams Kherkher has FELA lawyers on staff experienced in the matter of handling FELA claims and lawsuits, and their perspective is quite valuable. The firm is of the opinion that not enough railroad workers are well-versed in all areas of protection at their disposal, and the firm would like to help those workers understand their rights.
Williams Kherkher is led by Attorneys John Eddie Williams and Steve Kherkher, and has 26 attorneys and over 120 support staff on hand. The firm has represented victims of explosions since 1983.
