A former English nanny with years of experience has created a Sleep Consulting Service that will answer the prayers of parents everywhere.
Dawnn Whittaker, now a mother with 2 young children and budding mompreneur has used her year of maternity as a springboard to set up a home based business-supporting parents of children with sleep issues.
Dawnn explains, "When a child is not sleeping tension builds between parents, they often disagree on how to make changes and the lack of sleep they are experiencing only adds fuel to the fire. By bringing in a neutral person who can explain the cause, solution and expectations gives them a deeper level of understanding and helps them work together as a team."
Drawing on her 14 years of childcare experience as a nanny, night nanny and baby nanny Dawnn would overhear the same phrase from parents time and time again; "Can't sleep" "Won't sleep." Keen to share her knowledge and experience, Dawnn launched her consulting company Cheeky Chops earlier this year.
Located in Walnut Grove, Langley BC, Dawnn has coached many families and children in getting the sleep they need. You don't have to live close by to benefit from this valuable service either. "I knew that I needed some advice and guidance, but what I didn't realize was how quick the changes would occur and the level of support was far superior than I dreamed, I now have to retrain myself to sleep," says Diane Singh from Victoria, BC.
"For many parents the biggest challenge is knowing where to go to find answers, they don't realize there is such a person as a Child Sleep Consultant. Although there are several generic books on the subject they don't always provide the answers to the questions that parents have and they definitely cant provide moral support," says Dawnn.
For the parents that Dawnn has been able to help, there is no doubt about the value such a service offers families. " I just wanted to let you know that Devin has now slept through the entire night (7.30pm - 7.15am) for one week straight!" says Amber Rodgers from White Rock, BC.
"I honestly don't know how long it would have taken me on my own - years I think."
For Dawnn it is results like this which make juggling working with motherhood worthwhile.
"Setting up my business whilst looking after my own baby and toddler has definitely been trying at times, but worth it as I can stay at home with my children and have a career I am passionate about," Dawnn says.
Dawnn currently offers a range of services; Monthly seminars, Personal Consultations, Telephone Consultations, Unique baby shower packages to working over night as a Baby Nanny. Dawnn is also attending the breastfeeding counselor's course in September and has designed a range of sleep sacs for babies.
