“Going green” is taking on a meaning of mass proportion in the Colorado apartment rental market, thanks to Riverstone Residential Group.

The firm, the nation's largest independently owned property management company, is installing recyclable carpet into 5,000 of its rental apartment units in Colorado - nearly 33 percent of the properties the company manages in the state. Riverstone is the first apartment property management company to use carpet made exclusively with 100% recyclable carpet fiber in Colorado. Recyclable yarn carpets being removed from existing apartments will be recycled. The company plans to incorporate the installation of recyclable carpets into all units it manages in Colorado – close to 17,000 - over the next 18 months, and then on a continual basis as it renovates units and as products become available.

Riverstone is partnering with Arbor Contract Carpet in the venture, according to Tim Babcock, V.P. of Riverstone Residential Group. With its Infinity collection of recycled carpet – the first 100 percent recyclable nylon carpet line for the apartment industry. In 2008, Arbor estimates diverting approximately 10 million pounds of carpet from landfills while reducing greenhouse emissions and the required water, energy, and oil consumption involved in new-carpet manufacture.

For Riverstone’s Colorado properties, purchasing recyclable carpet for 17,000 apartments means approximately 2.5 million pounds of carpet fiber diverted from landfills. The recycled carpet, says Babcock, features the same look, quality, and performance as new carpet, and sports prices competitive with traditional new carpet. “This move puts Riverstone’s commitment to the environment into real action,” he states, “providing clients with quality and conscientious choices.”

Arbor Contract Carpet, Inc. (http://www.arborcarpet.com), founded in 1982, specializes in the installation of floor coverings for the multi-family industry, in both new construction and replacement. Nationally, the company offers several grades and colors of carpet, tile, vinyl, and wood plank flooring from its six distribution warehouses and six satellite locations. The company headquarters in Irving, Texas.

Riverstone Residential Group (http://www.riverstoneres.com) is the nation's largest independently owned property management company.
