(PRWEB) August 25, 2007 -- Piribo, the online destination for business intelligence for the biotech and pharmaceutical industry, has now added a new report which forecasts that the global cardiovascular drug market will see significant growth in the next three years.
"Cardiovascular Pharmaceutical Market Trends, 2007 to 2010" predicts that the global cardiovascular drug market will touch $116.3 billion by 2010. It notes that the global market for cardiovascular patients will increase to 251 million in the same time frame with the greatest rate of growth forecast for the US market. The cardiovascular drug projected to achieve the greatest growth over the next three years is Takeda/ AstraZeneca's Blopress/ Atacand (candesartan) with a CAGR of 9.0%
The study finds that most companies involved in the sales of cardiovascular drugs will see a solid growth. For instance four of the top10 companies in 2005 - Sanofi-Aventis, Novartis, GlaxoSmithKline and Boehringer Ingelheim - will see their cardiovascular portfolios experience double digit annual growth rate in the next three years, but others are unlikely to fare as well in the same time frame. The report anticipates that Merck will see a slump in sales which will also result in the company dropping from second to sixth place in the list of top cardiovascular companies.
The report from URCH publishing, a UK-based provider of pharmaceutical business information, finds that though the cardiovascular market will grow at the rate of 5.3% over the next three years, there will be a slowing down because there is a scarcity of novel therapies being introduced and patents are continuing to expire for major products.
Steve Seget, the author, analyses the leading cardiovascular products likely to lose patent protection in the next ten years. He also forecasts sales to 2010 for the top ten cardio medicines, organising material by drug class. The 112-page study also contains key market facts like the drug class presently dominating the global cardiovascular market with a market share of nearly 50% is anti-hypertensives, and key figures such as all 20 of the top products by global cardiovascular sales generated annual sales in excess of US$1 billion in 2005.
