In the official culmination of what is the largest historic renovation in the history of Rhode Island, designers, architects, senior management, and local dignitaries gathered for the party of the year to celebrate the official opening of the Renaissance Providence Hotel, the new, luxurious $100 million hotel on the Avenue of the Arts.

"This is a chance for everyone involved in this amazing project to come together to see the true masterpiece they created," said General Manager Angelo De Peri. "It took a lot of effort, vision, commitment, and creativity to turn this historic building into an elegant, sophisticated expression of the arts and culture of this city."

About 500 guests were treated to culinary delights and serenaded by performances by the Festival Ballet, Opera Providence, the Rhode Island Philharmonic Quartet, and The World Premier Band. The party was planned by Sullivan Custom Planning, Inc., an award-winning meeting and destination management company based in Providence and Newport, RI.

Earlier in the day senior management of the Providence hotel, representatives from Marriott International and Sage Hospitality, and 115 new employees attended a ribbon cutting to officially open hotel doors. Among the quests were Rhode Island Governor Carcieri; Providence Mayor David Cicilline; Rita Cuddihy, Senior Vice President for Renaissance Hotels and Resorts North America; Walter Isenberg, President and CEO of Sage Hospitality; and Ken Geist, Executive Vice President of Sage Development.

All room sales from Grand Opening day will be donated to the Music School of the Rhode Island Philharmonic, The Rhode Island State House Restoration Society, and the VMA Arts and Cultural Center.

"The decision to have this event support the arts and historic architecture of Providence is in keeping with the purpose of this masterpiece of a hotel," said De Peri. "This hotel and this event are both expressions of the vibrant arts community here in the city."
