Troy, MI (Vocus) August 24, 2007
The International Academy of Design & Technology (IADT) is collecting items for the silent auction that will be held on Thursday, September 6th from 10am-7pm and Friday, September 7th from 10am-2pm. All proceeds from the silent auction will be going to Interim House of metro-Detroit, a shelter for abused women and their children. The public is welcome to donate items for the auction, or place bids on the items during the auction.
ÂWhen we learned about the Interim HouseÂs need to update and remodel the shelter, we immediately started to brainstorm on ways our college and the Michigan chapter of ASID could help, said Barbara Marini, FASID, Program Chair of Interior Design at IADT. ÂThe silent auction is just the beginning. We also have student and faculty volunteers that plan to clean, paint, and help where needed during the renovation of Interim House. Helping the shelter has become a school-wide effort.Â
Interim House of metro-Detroit first opened its doors in 1979, becoming one of the largest domestic violence shelters in the United States with a capacity of 67 beds. Interim House offers comprehensive services to battered women and their children in a family setting. In the 25+ years the shelter has serviced the community, they have served over 10,000 women.
The International Academy of Design & Technology (IADT) was originally founded in Chicago in 1977. IADTÂs Troy campus was established in 2003 to help Michigan students develop their skills and abilities needed for success in the fields of design and technology. The career-oriented degree programs provide hands-on training and real-world insights, taught by industry professionals who work in the fields in which they teach. IADT is accredited by the Accrediting Council for Independent Colleges and Schools to award associate and bachelor degrees. IADT currently offers degree programs in Interior Design, Graphic Design, Game Design, Fashion Design, and Digital Media.
