Vatican official will answer audience questions in an intimate benefit dinner at the Le Mont Restaurant in Mount Washington on Sept. 13.

Francis Cardinal Arinze, a top-level Vatican official, will appear at a benefit dinner for the Apostolate for Family Consecration on Sept. 13 at the Le Mont Restaurant in Pittsburgh’s Mount Washington neighborhood.

In an intimate setting, Cardinal Arinze, prefect of the Vatican Congregation for Divine Worship and Discipline of the Sacraments, and a native Nigerian who converted to Christianity, will speak about a range of topics, including “The Eucharist, Family and Presence.” He will also answer questions posed in advance by the audience.

“Cardinal Arinze has been an inspiration to the Apostolate since our early days,” said Jerome Coniker, President and co-founder of the Apostolate for Family Consecration. “We are grateful for this rare privilege -- to spend an evening in conversation with him in a family setting. But that's so very appropriate, since our Apostolate is all about the family, and the Church is itself a family.”

The evening will also feature Father Michael Scanlan, T.O.R., who will receive the Apostolate for Family Consecration’s, John Paul II Family Fidelity Award. The honor is presented to members of the clergy, consecrated life and lay faithful who have distinguished themselves in promoting a Christian spirituality of the family, which John Paul II said, “…is at the heart of the Church’s mission and her concern for humanity.”

Other attendees will include Most Reverend R. Daniel Conlon, Bishop of the Diocese of Steubenville, Ohio and Jerry Coniker, who co-founded the Apostolate for Family Consecration in 1975 with his late wife, Gwen.

The formal event is open to all those interested. The cost is $250 per plate or $1,800 for a table of eight, and guests may choose between three gourmet entrees prepared by Pittsburgh’s finest chefs. Advance reservations and payment are required, and guests may submit questions for Cardinal Arinze when reserving space. Those who are unable to attend are urged to sponsor a priest.
